Alien | 100 Movies Bucket List

Next up for the Bucket List was Alien.

This was technically a re-watch, but I'd only seen it once a really long time ago and remembered nothing, so it was more like a first-time watch.

I've mentioned before that sci-fi isn't really my genre of choice, so I wasn't particularly looking forward to this one (though I did want to watch it).

Unfortunately I found it just okay, and it might be worth re-watching in the future.

I liked the film once everything actually got going - the acting was great, the idea was great and the design of the alien was iconic. But I found the first hour of the film quite slow with not much happening, and because of that, it didn't really hold my interest.

That being said, I did enjoy the overall film, and completely recognise how important it has been for the sci-fi genre (and for final girls - Ripley is one of the originals!).

I might watch some of the sequels, but for this as a standalone, it wasn't my favourite.

Bridget Jones ( Renée Zellweger)  is back, and navigating life as a single mother and widow when she unexpectedly finds herself getting back into the dating scene. I was looking forward to seeing this film. Platoon | 100 Movies Bucket List

  Next up for the bucket list was a first-time watch. There are fewer war/military-based movies on this year's bucket list compared to last year, which I'm kind of happy about because it's not my favourite genre. That being said, I'm glad that the ones included are classics, as I probably wouldn't have watched them otherwise, and this one is no different! I didn't know much about this film other than hearing about it in passing. So I was really surprised to see the cast! There are so many iconic actors in this film - including Willem Dafoe, Forest Whitaker, Charlie Sheen, Keith David and Tony Todd, and they were all amazing in their roles. I've read that the film is based on the writer/director's real experiences and this makes sense because the film feels really authentic and real. Where Rainbows End vs. Love, Rosie | Film and Book Review

I've just finished reading 'Where Rainbows End' by Cecelia Ahern, and immediately had to watch the movie version, 'Love, Rosie'. The reason that I've decided to talk about them together, as opposed to only reviewing the book, is mainly because I didn't have enough to say about the book on its own to justify reviewing it. Alex (Sam Claflin) and Rosie (Lily Collins) have been best friends since childhood. But when they turn 18 and their paths start to diverge, they realise how much they need each other. I love the idea of this story. Whether in book or movie form, the idea of childhood best friends realising that they were always meant for each other is something that I'm really into. The book version of this story is written entirely of notes, emails, letters, instant messages and any other type of written media, and I loved this. Book Review #142: Not in Love by Ali Hazelwood

I'm a huge fan of Ali Hazelwood, so this book was high on my most anticipated books for this year. She always writes romance really well so, even though there was a disclaimer at the beginning of this book stating that it's different from her other works, I was sure I'd still enjoy it. And while I did enjoy it, I was also disappointed with it. But like all of Hazelwood's books, it was really easy to get into. Candy Cane Lane | Blogmas Day 13

It's Blogmas day 13! This is one that I was really looking forward to. It was new and looked like it would be a really fun watch. I love Hallmark romance Christmas movies, but it's also nice to have these more family-oriented movies. In order to make his house perfect for Christmas, Chris Carver (Eddie Murphy) makes a deal that inadvertently brings the 12 days of Christmas to life. I was really disappointed with this. It definitely wasn't as fun or enjoyable as I wanted it to be. It starts off really slowly and doesn't make us care about the characters. And this was a theme that continued throughout - I never cared about the characters and couldn't really connect with them. I was bored almost instantly, and the film did nothing to recapture my attention. The story doesn't always make sense, but even if it did it wasn't that fun.
