This is Christmas | Blogmas Day 23

This is another one that I was particularly looking forward to. Not only was the concept original, but I've seen and liked Alfred Enoch and Kaya Scodelario in other projects, so it was nice to see them in something together. When Adam (Alfred Enoch) realizes that he takes the train with the same commuters every day, he enlists the help of Emma (Kaya Scodelario) to throw a party for the passengers. I really liked this movie.  I'll start by saying the only thing I didn't love about the film was the main character, Adam. He was fine as a character, but if I knew him in real life I think I'd find him really annoying. Maybe I'm just cynical? I liked the love interests as a couple, but one thing I don't like about romance movies is when they make the love interest's partners into villains to justify the break-up (or sometimes cheating) that occurs. This film was guilty of doing this, and it wasn't really necessary in my opinion. I really liked the idea of th...

Long Story Short | Film Review

I remember seeing the trailer for this film ages ago and being really interested in it, so I was really excited when it came out on Sky Cinema. The morning after his wedding, Teddy (Rafe Spall) wakes up to discover that it is actually a year in the future, and every few minutes, he loses another year. As he sees his future play out before his eyes, Teddy discovers what he is about to lose, and does everything to stop it from happening. I really enjoyed this film. I knew it wasn't going to be anything profound, but I was surprised by how thought-provoking I found it. I loved the opening scene. It did a great job of setting up the entire film, and thankfully the film kind of kept the same tone the whole way through, which I enjoyed. I absolutely adore these two characters, Teddy and Leanne (Zahra Newman), both individually and as a couple. I loved the way they were written, and I loved the way the actors portrayed them. The film doesn't waste any time whatsoever, and I would ha...

Every Breath You Take | Film Review

I saw the trailer for this movie ages ago, and was really intrigued by both the premise and the actors involved. Thankfully it's a Sky Cinema original, so I could see it as soon as it came out. After the death of a patient, a therapist's (Casey Affleck) life is turned upside down when he introduces his deceased patient's brother (Sam Claflin) to his family.  I saw this film a little while ago and I still have questions - mainly, what was the point of this film, and why was it made? As I said, I really liked the premise. It was interesting, could go in a variety of different directions, and had a good enough cast to see it through. Unfortunately, it went in a weird direction really quickly. For a start, it was really unrealistic and far-fetched. You can't really work out where the story's going because it doesn't make sense - particularly in relation to Sam Claflin's character James. Why did the family allow this stranger into their lives, and what is his g...

All My Life | Film Review

Image
I have wanted to see this movie for so long. I remember seeing the trailer when it first came out, and it immediately looked like my kind of film, so I was really happy when it came out on the Sky Premiere channel a couple of weeks ago. Jenn (Jessica Rothe) and Sol (Harry Shum Jr.) are a couple with the world at their feet, until Sol is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Now their time is limited, and the people in their lives do everything possible to help them have their dream wedding. This film does exactly what you expect, so you probably already know whether you'll like it or not. I really did. There was instant, believable chemistry between the two characters. I really liked the fact that the film has a focus on their relationship before the main plot kicks in. It gives us a chance to get to know, and care, about them. I wouldn't say I fell in love with these characters, but I still liked getting to know them. The first 40 or so minutes are not only a really sweet mini rom...
