A Quiet Place: Day One | Film Review

Image
When New York City is faced with an alien invasion, citizens try to find a way to stay safe. Soon, they discover that the mysterious creatures hunt by sound. I really liked the first Quiet Place movie, and really disliked the second one, so I was in two minds about seeing this film. Ultimately, though, I had high hopes that a prequel would be a good way to continue this unique story. Unfortunately, while I liked this film more than the second, I didn't like it as much as I wanted to. I had a lot more problems with the film than I had positive things, so I'll start with the positives. It was filmed really well. There were some really beautiful, scenic shots that were really interesting. The dialogue (and lack thereof) was done well. Because the characters could only speak in certain circumstances, it made their limited words hold a lot more weight and meaning. As with all of the movies, the thing that stands out is the use of sound and silence. It especially works really well in...

A Quiet Place Part II | Film Review

I saw the first 'A Quiet Place' movie when it came out and I absolutely loved it - you can read my review here . However, I was never particularly excited about this sequel because I didn't think the first film needed a follow-up. But I was interested to see where it would go. I didn't enjoy this film as much as the first one, for a number of reasons. Having said that, I really did enjoy the first scene. In fact I enjoyed the first scene so much that I want to watch a prequel. I actually found this idea much more interesting than what the rest of the film was about. I felt a lot less connected to the characters this time around. This is probably because we had a lot more time to get to know the characters in the first film, and this one only focused on the story. However, I didn't really fee...

A Quiet Place | Film Review

Hey Guys x This is a movie that I was looking forward to for so long. As a huge fan of both Emily Blunt and John Krasinski, I was excited about the prospect of them working together before I even knew that they were making a movie of my favourite genre. The movie is about a family who have to live their lives in complete silence (only communicating through sign language), due to the fact that they are hiding from creatures that hunt using sound. That's not a long description because the film doesn't really need it. It's a simple premise, but it's an idea that is so easy to get wrong in a number of ways. I watch A LOT of horror movies, and I'm surprised that no one had come up with this idea before because sometimes the simpler ideas are the best, and the scariest. I loved this film. I thought it was amazing. If you have the chance, I think it's the kind of film that has to be watched in the cinema, because that atmosphere is something that you can...
