Halloween (1978) | 100 Movies Bucket List

Image
I have no idea how many times I've seen this movie, but it's definitely at least 10. I love the concept of the Halloween movies, and even though some of the sequels have gone down their own path, the fact that this simple idea has managed to spawn so many movies is kind of cool! Now, is every movie good? Definitely not. Is this movie an impressive feat of filmmaking to a 2024 audience? Probably not. But for when it was made, and the doors it opened for the horror world, it definitely deserves its place in this classics list. This time around wasn't my most enjoyable viewing of this movie (I probably need to give it a bit of a break) but I definitely still liked it, as I always do. Laurie Strode is widely regarded as one of the most iconic 'final girls', and with good reason! She's a great character, and I love that her story continued for so long. I'm always glad when there's a horror on the classics list, and this is a great one to have.

Halloween Ends | Film Review

I didn't love the last Halloween movie, Halloween Kills. But as this is supposedly the last one in the franchise, I couldn't not watch it. When Corey (Rohan Campbell) is accused of murdering the boy he was babysitting, a series of events leads to Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) having to face the man who has haunted her life, Michael Myers, for the final time. Like Halloween Kills, I also didn't like this movie. In fact, I think it was worse than the last. I liked the opening scene, with Corey and the boy he's babysitting. It was nothing like a 'Halloween' movie, but I liked that it was turning the genre on its head a bit, giving us something different. I just wish it hadn't strayed so far from the franchise for the whole movie. The friendship/relationship between Corey and (potential spoiler) comes out of the blue and doesn't feel particularly realistic.  It takes too long for the film to get to the point. The audience is only here because we care abou...

Halloween Kills | Film Review

Image
I am a big fan of the Halloween franchise, so much so that I went to the cinema to see the film that came out before this, so I was really looking forward to seeing the sequel (though I didn't think the previous film needed one). After the events of the previous film, masked killer Michael Myers is on the loose and once again terrorising the residents of Haddonfield. But this time, the residents are ready to rid their town of evil once and for all. So, my hunch that this sequel wasn't needed turned out to be correct. For a start, this film starts directly after the last movie. And while this is fine, it felt like there was a bit too much time between the films for the audience to completely remember what happened last time, or who some of the characters are. Having said that, I did enjoy the links between the films - particularly the links back to the original 1978 movie. The 'Halloween' movies aren't the pinnacle of realism, but this one felt especially unrealistic...

Underrated Movies to Watch This Halloween!

Image
Hey Guys x As a huge fan of horror, I really love whenever Halloween comes around, particularly because some of my favourite movies play on TV 24/7. So I thought that I would compile a list of some of the best underrated horror movies that I've watched this month, just in time for Halloween today! Coraline This has become a really classic Halloween movie, particularly for people that aren't really that into horror. And it's in this list as 'underrated' for anyone that doesn't believe cartoons can also be horror movies, because this is one! It's about a girl called Coraline who finds a secret door in her house that leads to an alternate world - with alternate parents. It's the perfect movie to watch if you want a bit of a scare tonight without being truly freaked out. Monster House This is probably my favourite cartoon horror, for so many reasons. It's about a group of kids who truly believe that the house next door is alive, and they...

5 Movies To Watch Via Netflix This Halloween!

Image
Hey Guys! Happy Halloween! Are you stuck for what to watch on the spookiest day of the year? Well look no further, because I've comprised a list of some of my favourite horror movies to watch! Also, I have to point out that, as I only have access to Netflix UK, that's where the movies are. I'm sorry if they're not available wherever you are! In no particular order... Hush A deaf woman who lives alone finds herself trapped in her house when a masked man begins to terrorise her from the outside. A simple premise, and yet so effective. As well as being deaf, Maddie is extremely resourceful, which twists the usual 'slasher' type story into a game of cat-and-mouse. The perfect movie if you want to experience excellent film-making without being scared out of your mind. Because yes, as scary as this film is from Maddie's point of view, you'll definitely be able to sleep at night after seeing it. Emelie   When their usual babysitter cancels, tw...

Halloween | Film Review

Hey Guys x I feel like I review Blumhouse films so often! But they've been putting films out really consistently lately, and good ones at that, so I don't mind my blog being filled with their name again and again. After all, they are my absolute favourite production company! Anyway, let's get on with the review. This film is a direct sequel to the first 'Halloween' film that came out 40 years ago. So, it's been 40 years since Laurie Strode survived Michael Myers' attacks one Halloween night, and since then, she's been preparing. Her life, and her daughter's life, were directly linked to that attack, and Laurie was just waiting and biding her time, until she could get a second chance with the man who destroyed her life. And when he breaks out of the mental asylum, her chance comes. She and her worst nightmare have a final showdown, but this time, they're ready for each other... After a recent re-watch of the original, in preparation for...

Halloween | Blogmas Day 20

Image
Happy Blogmas day 20 guys! It seems really weird to be talking about Halloween in the middle of Blogmas, especially so close to Christmas! But I really wanted to talk about this film so that's what I'm gonna do! This is quite an old film, 1978, so you've probably already heard of it and seen it, if you wanted to. I waited such a long time to see it, and had such low expectations. The film begins through the eyes of 6-year-old Michael Myers. It shows him on Halloween, as he watches his sister and her boyfriend hang out, waits for the boyfriend to leave, and brutally murders his sister. He's locked up for 15 years. However, he manages to escape and makes his way back to his home-town. In his home town lives a high school student called Laurie Strode. She and her friends become Michael's latest targets. I really really enjoyed this film! You have to take into account when it was made. It's not gonna have the production value of the Conjuring, it's n...

10 Movies To Scare You This Halloween!

Image
Hey Guys x There's only so many times that I can talk about my love of horror movies, but as Halloween is coming up in just over a week, I thought I'd write this post. As the title suggests, there are the scary movies that I never recommend to people that aren't fans of horror. So if you're not a fan of scary, I wouldn't recommend most of these. But if you're having friends over or if you're trying to be a bit scared, I'd definitely tell you to watch some of these! The Conjuring 2 I've spoken about this film on the blog before but I love it so much! The movie is big on it's jump scares and scary music, so definitely watch if that's your thing! It would probably be great to watch with a group of friends, and there are many moments that you can laugh about once you've seen it more than once! Lights Out Another film that I've spoken about a lot since I watched it a week or two ago. This again is quite heavy with the jump sc...

Halloween Horror Movies!

Image
Hey Guys x Halloween is tomorrow, and as someone who loves a good horror movie or two (or ten!), I am very excited for it! Mainly to sit down and watch some horror movies. So I decided to share some of the films that I'm watching around the Halloween period. Hopefully you'll be able to watch some of them! Just be warned, when I say a film isn't scary, people tell me that I'm crazy because they found it really scary, so you may find some of these more scary than I did, so watch the trailers first! Annabelle This film is the prequel to 'The Conjuring'. It is about a couple, about to have a baby, who purchase a doll that the woman has wanted for ages. However, as soon as they purchase the doll, weird things start happening. So weird, that the husband tries to throw the doll away and they move house. But somehow, they can never seem to get rid of Annabelle! This is a great horror film, especially if you want to be scared on Halloween. I don't really ...
