Thor: Love and Thunder | Film Review

Image
Like a lot of Marvel/MCU fans, I loved the Thor film before this one, Thor: Ragnarok, and I liked the direction that Thor went in after that movie. So I was excited to see how the Thor storyline would continue in this movie. To battle a galactic killer, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) teams up with King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), now 'The Mighty Thor'. I didn't like this film. Maybe I need to watch it again, but on the first watch, it wasn't for me. It kind of felt like the filmmakers saw that jokes, recognisable songs and action scenes worked really well in Ragnarok, so they filled the beginning of Love & Thunder with them with no set-up (particularly the action scene), and it didn't work for me at all. Everything that happened, up to and including Jane becoming The Mighty Thor, felt really insignificant. Nothing felt impactful, and it doesn't feel like anything in the MCU will be changed becaus...

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness | Film Review

Image
As much as I love Marvel and the MCU, I haven't really kept up to date with the movies and series that make up Phase 4 - and the ones that I have seen, I haven't really loved yet. This film wasn't high on my list to see, but I was interested to see how certain characters' stories would continue. When Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) meets America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), a girl who can travel across the multiverse, they team up to take on multiple threats. I was quite underwhelmed by this film. I didn't expect to love it, but I wish I had. I liked the direction that the film took certain characters in, such as Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), who gets a continuation of her story in Wandavision. It was interesting to revisit the character. The story itself is interesting, but I never really felt invested in any of the characters - even the ones that I had already seen in multiple movies prior.  Doctor Strange, as a character, is probably the least interesting ...

Spider-Man: No Way Home | Film Review

Image
I put off watching this film until I could watch/re-watch all of the Spider-Man films leading up to this one, and while I'm really glad I did, I'm so happy that I've now been able to see it! This review will contain spoilers, though I assume most people who want to see the film have already seen it. Following the reveal of Spider-Man's identity, and the effect that this has on his friends and loved ones, Peter Parker (Tom Holland) asks Dr Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) for help. But when a complicated spell goes wrong, and Peter is faced with the villains of multiple universes, can he restore the multiverse before it's too late? I absolutely loved this film. I knew before going in that I'd like it, that it would be enjoyable, but I never thought I would love it as much as I do. For a start, I love that the film begins as soon as the previous film ended. There is literally no time taken, we have to see Peter deal with everything that is thrown at him on the spot....

Avengers: Endgame | Film Review

Image
Hey Guys x I just got back from the cinema and am writing this pretty much straight away because I wanted to remember exactly how I was feeling right after seeing the film. I've been a huge fan of the MCU for years, and had so many hopes tied into this film. So in the simplest way, this film is a big deal. After the events of 'Infinity War', when Thanos completed his mission of erasing half the world, the remaining Avengers are out of ideas, hopeless, and trying to move on with their lives. But when a small ray of hope makes itself known, the team puts everything on the line to bring back what Thanos took from them. And they'll do whatever it takes to make things right again. Amazing isn't a strong enough word to describe this film. Incredible? Epic? Well, it's all of these things and more. There's so much to say about it, particularly while carefully avoiding spoilers, as the film really is best when you know as little as possible about it. ...

Ant-Man and the Wasp | Film Review

Image
Hey Guys x So, here's the latest MCU movie to hit screens. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has become a definite force to be reckoned with, and with its biggest offerings crushing box office records, it's nice to have these smaller solo-movies to enjoy throughout the year. It's been two years since the events of Captain America: Civil War, and Scott Lang has been on house arrest. He's been being a good dad, and keeping out of trouble. That is, until Hank Pym and his daughter Hope find their way back into his life. They believe they've found evidence that Hope's mother could still be alive, and if they're going to find her, then they need his help. But with just three days of house arrest left, and a new enemy on their trail, is this going to be their biggest mission yet? This second instalment of the Ant-Man franchise offers a lighter side of a cinematic universe that in the past year has dealt with heavy topics, up to and including the destruction of ...

My Favourite Marvel Movies | Blogmas Day 8

Image
Hey Guys x Of course I was going to do a Marvel themed post at some point, and my movie-based Blogmas seemed like the best time! In this post I'll be ranking the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies, from worst to best in my opinion. I won't be ranking 'The Incredible Hulk' or 'Doctor Strange' because I haven't seen either of them yet. I hope you enjoy this, and if you're not a fan of Marvel, I hope this persuades you to watch some of the movies! 12. Iron Man 2 So, Iron Man 2 is last on my list. I think it's been widely established among MCU fans that this movie wasn't the greatest, and I have to agree. I like the movie, I think the humour is great and obviously the acting is amazing, but as a whole, it doesn't do anything to advance the MCU. This film's villain, 'Whiplash', doesn't really pose that much of a threat, they defeat him quite easily at the end of the film, and I wasn't worried at any point that th...
