Can You Keep A Secret? | Film Review

Image
Hey Guys x This film is an adaptation of a novel by Sophie Kinsella. While I have been a fan of hers for a while, this is one of her only novels that I never read. I've owned it for a while, but it never appealed to me. However, after seeing that this movie was on Netflix, I thought I'd give the movie a chance, and then see if that changed my mind about reading the book. Emma Corrigan (Alexandra Daddario) is on a plane that she thinks is about to crash. Because of this, she ends up spilling her deepest, darkest secrets to the stranger sitting next to her. However, when she returns to work, she finds out that the stranger is actually Jack Harper (Tyler Hoechlin), the CEO of her company. And he knows all of her secrets... Despite having a few problems with this film, I really enjoyed it. Starting with my problems, the main character (Emma) is too over-the-top. This makes everything she says sound unrealistic and ruins the entire first scene when she exposes her secrets. She...

Book Review #68: Christmas Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella

Image
Hey Guys x I haven't done a book review in a few months, so I thought I'd start back with the first book I've read this year - Christmas Shopaholic. I am such a huge fan of Sophie Kinsella and the whole Shopaholic series, so I was really excited to read this book! Becky is back - but she's in more of a panic than ever. Because this year, she's hosting Christmas for the first time, which she thought would be easy. But with her sister demanding a vegan turkey, buying the perfect present for husband Luke and working out the ulterior motives of a pushy ex-boyfriend, Christmas will be anything but easy. To be honest, I wasn't a huge fan of the Shopaholic book that came before this one, 'Shopaholic To The Rescue', so while I was looking forward to this one, I was also a bit wary about it before I started reading. It's safe to say that I enjoyed this one a lot more than I enjoyed the previous one. But with this book, I only started liking it in th...

Book Review #50: My Not So Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella

Image
Hey Guys x Sophie Kinsella is one of my favourite authors in the world so of course I read her new book. The book is about Katie. She has an amazing life. She lives in London (her dream) has a great job with an inspiring boss, and does amazing things every day that make for amazing insta pics. Or so her social media profiles would have you believe. Actually, Katie's life isn't what it seems. Her London apartment is actually a tiny mess, her job is repetitive, her boss is infuriating and her insta pics belong to the life of some other Londoner. But she's sticking it out. After all, living in London is her dream. However, when Katie's infuriating boss Demeter gives her the sack, she can't help but feel incredibly angry. How is it fair for Demeter with the perfect life to single-handedly destroy hers?! So when they cross paths again, Katie has one thing on her mind - revenge. But is Demeter's life as perfect as it seems? That was a long-winded expla...

Book Review #44: Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella

Image
Hey Guys x So welcome to another review! This time, as you can see, I'm reviewing a book by my absolute favourite author Sophie Kinsella! This book is about a girl called Audrey. She has severe social and generalised anxiety, as well as episodes of depression. Because of this, Audrey doesn't leave the house, she wears dark glasses to avoid eye contact, and she doesn't speak to anyone that's not immediate family or her therapist. However, one day, Audrey meets Linus - and to her, he's the only person outside her family that gets it. And as he coaxes Audrey out of her own head, she finds that sometimes it takes someone else to find what's been inside of you all along. I loved this book! I'm really glad that I waited until now to read it, when I know that I do have social anxiety myself, and so could relate to Audrey a lot more. I think the topic of the book was handled really well. Like, we're completely in Audrey's head and can understand w...

Book Review #27: Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella

Image
I haven't reviewed a 'Sophie Kinsella' book since July so this is long overdue! The thing I love most about Sophie Kinsella is her writing style. I bet that, if she wrote a new book, I could be given that book without the front cover and instantly know who the writer is, because her style is so distinctive. I would love for someone to be able to say that about me one day, but I don't think I have a distinctive writing style, at least not yet! The book is about Lara, who isn't where she wants to be in life when she attends her great-aunt Sadie's funeral. But what Lara doesn't bargain for is Sadie coming back, as a ghost. She has one request, for Lara to find her dragonfly necklace. But in trying to find the necklace, Lara gets a lot more than she bargained for, and her own little love story along the way. I loved this book and really want to read it again because it was so interesting. Personally, because I am a huge fan of Sophie, I think that th...

Bookshelf Tour Part 1!

Image
This blog idea is completely inspired by Carrie Hope Fletcher. She did her bookshelf tour in a video here and I loved it, so I thought I'd do my own version of it. This is just part one and trust me, they'll be a lot of parts! Today's post is the first of 5 columns of one bookshelf. I have 3 bookshelves in my house to get through, which could take a while! I'll also just be giving you a slight background of each book, either a mini  review of an overview of where/how I got it. I've also reviewed a lot of the books, so I'll leave the link to my review within my overview. What Carrie also did, which I liked, was that she kept a record of the books that she had and hadn't read, so I think I'll do the same. That way I can keep a track of the books that I'm going to read in the future, as well as the ones that I'm going to be reviewing! Enjoy looking through the first part of my bookshelf (I use the term 'shelf' very loosely!) ...

Book Review #15: The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella

Image
If you've been following me for a while now (or have read all of my posts) you will have seen me review 'I've got your number' which is also by Sophie Kinsella. If you haven't seen my post, you can view it here ! At the end of that post, I recommended this book and said that I would be reviewing it at a later date. Well, the time has come for me to review it and I am so excited to share my thoughts on this book with you. The book is about a successful lawyer called Samantha. She is Cambridge-educated and has an IQ of 158. Everything in her life is going...ok. It could be better, but she's happy with the way it is. Until she makes a mistake. A mistake that will single-handedly ruin her career. So, like some of us, instead of facing up to her mistake, Samantha runs away. She ends up walking into the house of Trish and Eddie Geiger, a rich couple in desperate need of a new housekeeper. Enter Samantha. She doesn't know it, but she has unknowingly signed up...

Book Haul 1!!

Image
I love books. I have too many books and will always choose to buy more rather than to give some away. Since my birthday, in December, until now, I have accumulated so many books that I haven't had a chance to read, so I thought I would use this post to show you some of the books that I have either bought or been given that I haven't had a chance to read.                                                         Joey Essex - Being Reem I am a big fan of TOWIE (The only way is Essex) and I enjoyed watching Joey when he was on it, so  knew that I had to buy his book. Although I haven't read it, I know that, as well as being light-hearted, he also touches on serious issues, such as the dea...
