Christmas Wonderland | Blogmas Day 5

 Hey Guys x

It's Blogmas day 5!

This is a Hallmark movie that was on Netflix. The premise didn't immediately grab me, but it looked interesting enough that I wanted to include it in Blogmas.

Heidi (Emily Osment) goes back to her hometown to babysit her niece and nephew before Christmas. When she gets there, she runs into her old boyfriend, Chris (Ryan Rottman), who is now a teacher at her niece and nephew's school. When she gets roped into helping him organise the school's Christmas dance, she discovers that her feelings for Chris haven't disappeared.

This was a cute movie. It wasn't my favourite, but it follows all the common tropes of a Christmas Hallmark movie.

The premise is generic, and the same as most Christmas movies you'll see. The film doesn't really do much to try and stand out.

We are told right away that there is history between Heidi and Chris, but you can't really tell this from their interactions. There's absolutely no chemistry between them, and it's hard to believe that they have this deep history. In a way, it feels like they are a couple that have just met, and because there is supposed to be this chemistry, the audience can't really root for them.

Speaking of unbelievable relationships, I also felt like this about Heidi's niece and nephew, Katie (Trinity Roberts) and Tom (Jacob Buster). Their relationships, the way they speak, and their connection to their aunt all felt really unrealistic. How are they so connected to an aunt that we are told they never see?

And then there's the actual plot. From what I could see, the only people in the movie who actually cared about this dance (including all of the children at the school) was Heidi and Chris, so even the audience don't care about it.

And then there was the fake conflict. These people who had previously dated, who kept being alone together and flirting, who almost kissed twice, were worried that the other wouldn't feel the same way? Really?

However, something that the film got right was the music, which made the whole film feel really festive. Even if they did just play various versions of 'Hark the Herald Angels Sing'!

Overall, there are better Christmas movies to watch, so I'd probably give this one a miss.
