3 Month Favourites | April - June 2023

It always feels like these posts come around so quickly - I can't believe it's already July! But I found some great things to love over the last three months.

Favourite Movie (1): Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

I reviewed this film HERE and completely raved about it. I won't repeat that here, but if you haven't seen it, I definitely, wholeheartedly, recommend it.

Favourite Film (2): Missing

I reviewed this film HERE and like the film above, I raved about it, and would 100% recommend it if you haven't seen it yet. It's definitely worth a watch.

Favourite Film (3): The Little Mermaid

This isn't one I've reviewed, but I went to see it a few weeks ago and I loved it. I'm a fan of the animated version anyway so I knew I'd like the story, but I really loved this updated version. The music was perfect, the new songs fit right in, and the cast was amazing. Definitely one to watch if you like the original!

Favourite TV Show (1): Mayor of Kingstown

There will be a bit of a Jeremy Renner theme with some of the upcoming additions to this post, but this is probably one of the most underrated shows I've watched. It's about a town called Kingstown, the prison system, and how incarceration has become a thriving industry for the people who live there. It was so much more interesting than I thought it was going to be and I flew through the two available seasons. I can't wait for a potential third, and definitely think it should be a lot more popular than it is!

Favourite TV Show (2): How I Met Your Father

I have to admit, I didn't really like the first season of this show. I liked the characters, but felt the writing was a bit off. So while I was interested in season 2, I didn't have high hopes for it. But for some reason I completely fell in love with the second season. It was like everyone behind and in front of the camera figured out what they were doing, everything clicked into place and it became a very funny enjoyable sitcom. Currently on Disney+ in the UK there are only 11 episodes out, and I flew through them so quickly I was actually upset to find that I couldn't watch any more. I can't wait for the rest of the season to come through! If you watched the first season and didn't like the show, definitely give season 2 a chance!

Favourite Song (1): Long Long Time


This song is probably the number one thing that stuck with me after watching 'The Last of Us'. This song meant so much in episode 3, and after seeing that, I fell in love with it and haven't stopped listening to it since. 

Favourite Song (2): Best Part of Me

I've known that Jeremy Renner could sing for a long time, but I only heard this song for the first time a couple of months ago, and I fell in love with it as soon as I heard it. It's a beautiful song, and definitely worth listening to if you've never heard it.

Favourite Actor: Jeremy Renner

You could probably guess this was coming. I've been a fan of Jeremy Renner since I first got into Marvel and the MCU, but I had a re-emergence of love for him after seeing the interview he did about his accident earlier this year. I watched so many of his movies, as well as a couple of TV shows, and definitely gained a newfound respect for him as an actor. 

Favourite Book: The Mother

I reviewed this book HERE. I absolutely loved it. T.M. Logan is my favourite author and this book has solidified the reason why. I definitely recommend it, and if you're a fan of thrillers, there are a whole host of Logan's books to check out.

Technically the '100 Movies' in the Bucket List are really 106, because there are a couple of squares that contain trilogies that only count as one movie. This is one of them. I watched all the Star Wars movies a few years ago, and while I've re-watched the sequel trilogy quite a few times, I only watched the original trilogy once, so I was really glad I got to watch them again for this. Drive-Away Dolls | Film Review

Looking for a fresh start, Jamie (Margaret Qualley) and Marian (Geraldine Viswanathan) take a road trip, unaware that their rented car contains an important package that a group of criminals will do anything to find. I remember seeing the trailer for this film a couple of months ago at the cinema, and while I wasn't itching to see it, it looked light and fun, so it was definitely on my radar. I loved this movie! It was so much better than I was expecting it to be! For a start, I loved the characters from their first seconds on screen. The main actresses have great chemistry and it's so fun watching them together. Not only did I enjoy the acting and the way the characters were written, but the dialogue was brilliant. You really enjoy just watching these people interact regardless of the situation they're in. A lot of the cast was unexpected, and I loved that. The Rocky Horror Picture Show | 100 Movies Bucket List

  Another first-time watch! The entire extent of my knowledge about this film is the songs that were covered on Glee. So while the music was familiar, I had no idea what the actual plot was about. I'm actually a bit disappointed that I didn't love it as much as I wanted to. For the time that it was made it was funny and progressive, it broke down barriers and was very ahead of its time. And yet, it was a bit too out there for me, which is strange because I'm sure I've seen weirder films. And that's not to say I didn't enjoy it, because I did have a good time, but I couldn't get completely into it.  The music was great, and the way that it was used to build the characters was really smart and interesting. In fact, the music was probably the best thing about the film. But in saying that, the actors were incredible! Madame Web | Film Review

When Cassie Webb (Dakota Johnson) starts to have visions of the future, she sets out to protect three teenage girls from a mysterious assailant. This movie has become a bit of a joke on the internet, supposedly for how bad it is. It wasn't really on my radar at all, and I wasn't planning to watch it until I saw all the negative reviews. But I had to know if it was as bad as everyone said! Surprisingly (to me), I didn't hate this film. It's not good, but it also wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. However, I will say that for the first 30 minutes, it was bad. I had absolutely no idea what was going on, what the film was about, or where it would be going. But once the three girls were introduced, I started to really get into it. I loved the idea of these girls being connected because of their futures, and I liked the way this was discovered. Airplane! | 100 Movies Bucket List

  This was a first-time watch, and I had no idea what it was about. It was a bit surprising to me that there weren't a lot of comedies on the Bucket List, but then thinking about it more, comedies, romances and horrors are probably the least-valued genres in terms of critical acclaim, which is really unfortunate because there are some incredible movies in those categories. But because of that, I was really happy to see a comedy on the list, especially one that's widely known as being 'one of the 10 funniest movies ever made' according to the Paramount Plus description. So I had somewhat high hopes for it! I enjoyed the movie a lot.  The film was released in 1980, and while the humour works for that time period, I really believe it works for a modern audience too.
