5 Movies To Watch Via Netflix This Halloween!
Hey Guys! Happy Halloween!
Are you stuck for what to watch on the spookiest day of the year? Well look no further, because I've comprised a list of some of my favourite horror movies to watch!
Also, I have to point out that, as I only have access to Netflix UK, that's where the movies are. I'm sorry if they're not available wherever you are!
In no particular order...
Hush
A deaf woman who lives alone finds herself trapped in her house when a masked man begins to terrorise her from the outside.
A simple premise, and yet so effective. As well as being deaf, Maddie is extremely resourceful, which twists the usual 'slasher' type story into a game of cat-and-mouse. The perfect movie if you want to experience excellent film-making without being scared out of your mind. Because yes, as scary as this film is from Maddie's point of view, you'll definitely be able to sleep at night after seeing it.
Emelie
When their usual babysitter cancels, two parents are more than happy for her friend to take over. While their oldest child, Joshua, is suspicious, his brother and sister immediately take to their new babysitter. But as the night goes on, they discover that this mysterious babysitter might not be who she says she is.
Again, a simple premise executed extremely well. The story take place over one evening, and yet is able to pack so much tension and fear into its audience. There's something about Emelie, from the first time you see her, you know that there's something not quite right, but you can't put your finger on it. And this confusion works to the film's advantage, as the audience find out about Emelie at exactly the same time that the kids do. Won't stop you from sleeping, but will definitely freak you out while you're watching!
Would You Rather?
When seven people are invited to a mysterious dinner party, in exchange for some much needed cash, they jump at the chance. There's just one catch - they have to play a game of 'Would You Rather', and the winner gets to take home their payment, no strings attached. But then they have to decide - is the money they need worth their lives?
The first gory film on the list, and from the poster, you can guess one of the 'would you rather' scenarios. If you're a fan of gore (in the form of a 'Saw' movie, for example) then this is definitely a movie for you! But even without the gore, it's the kind of film that you find yourself getting invested in, the characters all have distinct personalities and are fleshed out, and you can't wait to see how it ends.
Monster House
Everyone has that creepy neighbour, right? The one whose house you skip when trick-or-treating, the one who always seems to be watching you? What happens when that neighbour leaves, and it still feels like their house is watching you? Like the house has a presence of its own? Well, for three children, this nightmare becomes a reality. But is it just their imagination, or is there something (or someone) in the empty house?
This is the perfect movie for Halloween. If you have kids around, if horror movies scare you silly, if you're looking for something to get lost in for an hour and a half, look no further! It's horror for all the family that is genuinely a lot better than some of the adult horror movies out today.
Finders Keepers
When Alyson Simon gets divorced and moves into a new house, she worries that her daughter Claire isn't adjusting well to her new surroundings. However, when Claire finds an old doll in their new house, everything changes. Once a timid girl, Claire becomes outspoken, and aggressive. Alyson takes her to a psychologist, trying to discover what has sparked these changes in her child. Until she discovers that, maybe, there's more to the doll than meets the eye.
This isn't your average horror-doll movie, and I should know because I've seen so many of them. But there's something extremely unique about this story. It was a TV-movie, and this can certainly be seen in the way that it's shot, but that doesn't take anything away from the story. Actually, it adds to the story. This feels real, like it could happen to anyone, and that's why this film is in my list. Because in the days of huge budgets and big names where everyone wants to get that 100% on rotten tomatoes, this film provides the comfort that the smaller films with great direction and great scripts can have a great impact on audiences.
