Bonnie and Clyde | 100 Movies Bucket List

This is one of the last films on the list, for no other reason than all the others were more accessible, and it was one I'd never seen.

I was quite apathetic towards watching it. I knew a basic version of what the story was about but had never delved deeper into it, so it felt like I went into it semi-blind.

One thing I did know was that it was often compared to Thelma and Louise, so because I love Thelma and Louise so much, I thought that I'd probably like this too.

I went back and forth with my like of this one.

For a start, it began in an odd place to me, in that it felt like I had missed some context. It starts off at the first meeting of the characters, there's no one without the other. And as much as this sends a really interesting message about who these people were, I would have liked to know a bit more about who they were before they met.

But I know that's not the point of the film!

The main actors, Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, had amazing chemistry. Ultimately I think their performances is why the film is as revered as it is - you'd watch these two do anything together because they work together so well.

The story itself was an interesting one. I don't know how close it is to the real-life events but it was really engaging at first. Not only watching them commit crimes, but the moments between when we get to see them interact or plan their next move.

However, this engagement started to wane for me as the film continued. I still cared about Bonnie and Clyde, but I didn't really care for any of the supporting characters, and the more time we spend with them, the less time I spent being interested in the story.

I also wanted to see a lot more 'action', and by that I mean that the film is at its best when exciting things are happening. Shootouts or robberies are what we're here for and what we want to see. So between these things, it doesn't feel like there's that much else to watch for.

The slowness of certain scenes made this feel longer than it was - at 1hr 50 minutes if you told me I'd been watching it for double that length, I'd believe you.

So ultimately, while there are some great things about the film, it just didn't really work for me.
