The Avengers | 100 Movies Bucket List
Finally, we've reached the last film! Technically 99 out of 100 but I'm not writing another post on Back to the Future, so this is the last bucket list post of the year!
I saved this movie because it was probably the one I was most looking forward to re-watching.
Of all the MCU movies, this one is definitely one of the best, and one of my favourites, so I always love when I get to see it again.
The first thing I have to mention is the casting. As a group, I don't think there's ever been a more fitting casting that the actors we got for this movie. Whether you like them all individually or not, they completely embodied their characters and came together so well that you really believe in this team.
And in saying that, I do really like all of the individual choices too. It's helpful that we were introduced to them in separate movies, so we got a chance to really get to know most of them before they came together, which is a key ingredient of these team-up movies (and why some others didn't work as well).
They all play great versions of these characters, and this is my favourite version of some of them.
And what's even better than that is that the actors work so well together and have such great chemistry. It's so interesting to see the way their character relationships evolved throughout the movies, and their own working relationships too (as much as we get to see).
But what ties everything together so well is the story itself.
Because the film had so much build-up, you need a real threat to make combining these stories seem worth it. The audience need to believe that no one else could solve this problem, and we absolutely believe it because of the story, and the power of Loki as the villain.
And the thing that struck me most on this re-watch was the pacing. It felt like I'd been watching it for 40 minutes by the time we ramp up to the ending, not nearly 2.5 hours! It's paced and written so well, there's never a dull moment and it still holds up incredibly well 13 years after its initial release.
It has the perfect amount of action, drama and humour and mixes these genres really well. But it also does a great job of bringing these stories together, giving enough of each that it pays off really well for fans who've seen everything, but not alienating new audiences.
And it managed to be a contained story while taking from prequels and setting up for sequels, which is rare nowadays when so many films feel like setups for multiverses.
Overall, there's not enough good things to say about this film. I love it so much, it's one of my favourite of the entire MCU, and it definitely deserves to be on this classics list!
And that's the end of the bucket list for this year! It was different to last year's in so many ways, and while last year had more outright classics, this one had more modern movies like this which made it so much fun to go through!
