Oh, Hi! | Film Review
Iris's (Molly Gordon) first getaway with her boyfriend hits a snag when Isaac (Logan Lerman) reveals that he's not looking for a serious relationship.
I was looking forward to this one. Back when the trailer first came out it looked really unique and fun, so I made a note to check it out when it was released.
I liked this film a lot.
I liked it instantly. The main characters had a great introduction, so I was really happy to follow them and see how their story continued.
And it worked so well because the actors had a great, specific chemistry that worked with the plot of the film. It may not have worked if this was a straightforward romance, but because there's so much going on here, their interactions are believable.
But that's also because it's really well written. The dialogue in particular feels really authentic, and the pacing was great. It moves really quickly and finishes at just the right point.
I really liked that the film took the time to allow the audience to get to know the characters. This is great when things develop because we feel like we know these people and can connect with them.
One thing I regret about the film is seeing the trailer, because it would be so much fun to go into the film completely blind. It takes some really interesting turns and if you didn't know what it was really about, I can imagine it being a genuine shock.
But in saying that, you still get a lot out of it even if you know where it's going. For me one of the best things was the way that it makes you switch alliances so often. You understand where the characters are coming from, but then one goes too far, and then the other makes you rethink what you thought before. And again, I think this is down to really liking the characters.
There were things that I guessed, but that didn't take anything away. And there were also a couple of genuine surprises that were great!
Though despite how fun it is, once you finish watching it, it isn't a particularly memorable film, which is odd because it's great while you're actively watching.
Overall I really liked this film and would definitely recommend it, but it's not really one that you'll think about once the credits roll.
7.5/10
