Amadeus | 100 Movies Bucket List
Next up was another first-time watch that I hadn't heard of.
As someone who isn't a huge fan of classical music, this wasn't a film I was particularly looking forward to. But that was mostly because I thought this would be a straightforward, completely factual biopic.
So my expectations couldn't have been further from the truth!
I really liked this movie!
For a start, it was so much more fun than I thought it was going to be. And this comes entirely from the character of Mozart (played by Tom Hulce).
He was so great! He's eccentric, hilarious and such a great character to follow throughout this story.
But more than that, the story itself is so interesting. Having the story told from the point of view of Salieri (F. Murray Abraham), a character who had such a complicated relationship with Mozart, was fascinating.
The actors worked really well together playing off the different dynamics from each of their points of view, which made the film a really intriguing watch.
The film was also a lot more modern than I thought it would be, while still feeling authentic to the time it was set.
Overall, this film was really well made, well written and a lot of fun to watch. If I had seen this earlier I would never have guessed that it would be considered a classic but I'm glad it is!
