You, Me & Tuscany | Film Review

After breaking into a stranger's (Lorenzo de Moor) villa during an impulsive trip to Italy, Anna (Halle Bailey) pretends to be his fiancée to get herself out of trouble with his family. But she faces a huge problem when she begins to develop a connection with the stranger's cousin, Michael (Regé-Jean Page).

I was really looking forward to seeing this. Not only am I a fan of the main actors involved, but we just don't get enough romcoms, especially black ones, so I was here for this!

Thankfully, I really liked the movie.

It starts in a really classic way, and is reminiscent of a lot of the romcoms that came before it. It's fun and Anna is a great main character to follow. You like her instantly.

Italy is always a great setting, but especially for a romance movie.

One thing I was worried about before starting the film was Bailey and Page's chemistry, but thankfully this worked well. They had a believable attraction and it was so lovely to watch them together as they built a relationship.

That being said, they only really had chemistry with each other. Page, in particular, didn't mesh as well with the supporting cast as with Bailey, but as the relationship with Bailey is the selling point of the film, this didn't matter too much.

They were able to banter and have fun together, which made it also fun as a viewer. Plus they both really suit the genre; they should definitely make more romance movies individually.

There is, of course, some suspension of disbelief needed to really go with things, but once you get past how unrealistic the situation is, it's nice to just be on the journey.

One of the downfalls of the film is that there's not a lot of substance here. There were moments where the film really tried to add depth, but these moments tended to fall a bit flat.

But if you're just going in for the romance, this really works. They're a really sweet couple, and just as an aside, they both looked so gorgeous and complimented each other really well.

So overall, if you're a romcom fan, I'd definitely recommend this film. I had a great time watching it, I thought the relationship was really sweet, and I really want this to spark another injection of romcoms being made.

7/10
