July Favourites | 2018
Hey Guys x
I have quite a lot of stuff to talk about today (I saw a LOT of movies in July!), so I'm gonna get straight into it!
Favourite Movie (1): Flatliners (2017)
This has got a lot of negative reviews, and when it came out it didn't appeal to me at all, so I didn't watch it. Then it came out on Sky and I thought I'd give it a chance, and thankfully, I was pleasantly surprised! It's about a group of medical students who strive to find out about the afterlife by dying and coming back to life. But of course, death isn't something to be played with.
I really enjoyed it. I loved the characters, and for such a badly reviewed film, I found myself becoming really invested in the story. So definitely give this a chance if you haven't!
Favourite Movie (2): Two Night Stand
Again, this is an old film, but one that I only saw this month. And again, I didn't expect to like it that much. I just assumed it would be a bit cliche and boring, so I was so surprised to see how invested in it I was. I completely fell in love with these characters, and if they did a completely cliche follow-up film to see where they are now, I'd totally watch it!
Favourite Movie (3): The First Purge
I reviewed this film already this month, so you can check that out here! But as you can see from that review, I really loved this film and would definitely recommend it to anyone.
Favourite Movie (4): Skyscraper
Again, I reviewed this this month, and you can see that review here! But this might be my favourite film of the month - it's absurd and crazy and incredibly unrealistic, and I loved every second of it.
Favourite Movie (5): Mission: Impossible - Fallout
This film was the last blog post I did, which you can check out here. But spoiler alert: I LOVED IT! Go and see this if you have the chance!
Favourite TV Show (1): White Collar
Since watching Magic Mike and falling in love with Matt Bomer, I started watching White Collar. And omg am I glad I did! I didn't know what to expect from the show, but I really didn't expect it to be as good as it is! It's about a white collar criminal called Neal Caffrey who, to avoid a 4 year prison sentence, is forced to work with the FBI agent who caught him, Peter Burke. Their dynamic is hilarious and makes the show unmissable. It's a white collar version of Psych, if Shawn and Lassiter were partners. And it's on Netflix, so go and watch it!
Favourite TV Show (2): Melissa & Joey
I have fallen in love with this show! I'm a sucker for a good sitcom, and this one is a really good one. It's about a council woman called Mel Burke who is looking after her niece and nephew because her sister and brother-in-law are in jail (or on the run from the law) after committing a corporate crime. One of the people that they hurt was a businessman called Joe Longo, who lost everything, including his job. So when he sees that Mel is in desperate need of a nanny to take care of the kids, he takes the only job he can get. And so these 4 individuals become a makeshift family, and hilarity ensues!
Favourite Song: When She Loved Me
I watched Toy Story 2 the other day, and was hit with such nostalgia that I had to listen to this song over and over again, because I was reminded of how much I loved it when I was young. It's such a beautiful song, and the scene that it's paired with in the film is also beautiful.
Favourite Game: Scattergories
This is the mobile version of a game that I used to play so much when I was younger. The aim of the game is that you get a random letter, and 6 categories, and then you have to find an answer for each category that begins with the letter. For example, you could get the categories 'girls name', 'TV show', 'Movie' and your letter is S - so your answers could be 'Sarah', 'Scandal' and 'Stardust', for example. It's fun, and it really makes you think!
Favourite Actor: Matt Bomer
As I already said, I have become such a huge fan of 'White Collar' in such a short period of time. Neal Caffrey is one of my favourite television characters of all time, and that is definitely because Matt portrays him so well. His personality is so unique, and I don't think he's a character that could be played by anyone else. But whether he's playing a white collar criminal, a father trapped on snowy mountains, or a stripper, Matt is an amazing actor who embodies every role he takes on.
Random Favourites
Netflix
After some hesitation, I finally succumbed and decided to join the world in using Netflix, and it's one of the best decisions I ever made. There were so many shows and movies that I was missing out on, and now I can binge shows on all of my devices without worrying about anything but my internet connection. And no, I'm not being sponsored by them (although how amazing would that be?), I just think that they're a great company, and I can't wait to watch more shows and films!
