Girl Talk: Shopping

It is a common misconception that, from birth, all girls love to shop. This may be true for you and your group of friends. Who doesn't enjoy window shopping and buying something new to play around with?

I've noticed that internet shopping is becoming a much bigger thing, in some cases putting normal shops out of business. When did it become the norm to buy things based on pictures that we've seen on the internet? I've been thinking about this more lately with the EBay hacking crisis.

People complain that teenagers don't leave home enough, but they make everything that we will ever need available on the internet. It sounds like a bit of a contradiction to me.

Just because we are girls doesn't mean that we all enjoy shopping for the same things. Most of my friends enjoy shopping for clothes. They purchase outfit after outfit without wearing the first few that they bought. Other friends of mine are more into make-up. They have to buy a lip-gloss, for example, in 5 different colours just to have a bit of variety. Of course, there is nothing wrong with this as having variety in your daily make-up pallet can never be a bad thing. Personally, when I shop, I shop for books. Every time I shop, I can't leave the centre without buying at least one book.

The problem that most people have with a prolonged amount of shopping is saving money. People love to save money, but can't resist buying the latest 'Tanya Burr' lip-gloss or the new 'Prada' bag. So how can we buy what we want and save money? Below are a few of my tips:

1) Save now, spend later

You may want everything as soon as it comes out, but by saving your money now, you can make sure that you can actually afford the thing that you want to buy. As well as this, it is a sure-fire way of making sure that you can buy whatever you want and still have money saved for later!

2) Don't always go designer

If there's something that you've had your heart set on, there will always be something similar at a non-designer shop which is much more affordable. Not only will you save yourself a ton of money, but your friends will forever be wondering how you dress like a star on the red carpet for the cheapest possible price!

3) Set your own trends

Don't buy the latest fashions just because everyone else is. Wear things that you are comfortable in and soon enough, either people will envy you because you won't look the same as everyone else, or people won't really care what you're wearing because they're too busy looking for the next big thing. Either way, it's ok not to look like everyone else. In fact, most people prefer it.

The most important thing about this post is that, there are ways of shopping and buying things that look expensive without having to spend a lot of money. And the things that you shop for don't define you, they just help you to discover who you are.
