The Life of Chuck | Film Review

The story of an ordinary man called Chuck Krantz (Tom Hiddleston) and the multitudes contained within him.

I was looking forward to seeing this film because of the actors involved, but I had no idea what it was about. Every description was vague, and in promotional interviews, the actors spoke about profound things like the meaning of life, so I went into it a bit apprehensive.

I absolutely loved this film. I can't stop thinking about it.

It starts from a really interesting point. The story is told in reverse order, and I loved this. You really get to know the world first, before the characters or anything else, so by the time we actually do get to know the characters, we're already invested and locked in.

20 minutes in and I'd already felt like I'd watched a whole movie, in the best way. You become so connected to this world so quickly that you feel like you're living in it with them.

And this is because everything came together perfectly - the writing, direction and acting. It's told in three parts and I really didn't want any part to end. I felt like I had lost something when they did.

Speaking of acting, the film has an amazing cast. Other than Hiddleston there's also Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, Mark Hamill, Mia Sara, Jacob Tremblay, Annalise Basso, Benjamin Pajak and Mike Flannigan favourites Kate Siegel, Samantha Sloyan and Rahul Kohli. Every single actor was amazing and contributed heavily towards how much we love their characters.

This is just a beautiful movie. It's visually stunning, some of the shots are just breath-taking, but it also has such a beautiful message, it's written beautifully, the characters are beautiful, there's no other word to describe it.

Each part was as powerful and engaging as the last, with each being so contained that they could stand alone and be their own short film.

And without giving anything away, the choreography! Those scenes was just so well done!

This is one of those films where the more you watch it, the more you get out of it. I loved it on the first watch, but at the end I had some questions. Watching it the second time answered all my questions, and those answers were things I hadn't even thought about the first time around. It's saying so much about so many profound ideas, that it may take a few watches to squeeze everything you can from this world.

So yes, this is a stunning film. I really loved watching it, I've loved thinking about it since watching it, and if you're in two minds about whether to see it, just go.

9.5/10
