Margaux | Film Review
When a group of friends rent a smart house for a weekend, they realise that the house's advanced AI system, Margaux, has sinister plans for them.
I didn't know what to expect from this film, and while I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it, I can also acknowledge that it wasn't that good.
The opening felt very comedic, and I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be. And this was definitely a theme throughout the film - from the way Margaux spoke, to the things that happened, I couldn't always decide if it was supposed to be funny or not.
The characters are fine, though none are developed particularly well. But the story is heavily plot-based, so in some ways the characters don't matter that much.
In fact, even though she was an AI system, Margaux was actually a character in her own right in the film. Not only that, but she was pretty much the only character in the film with a personality.
The best part of the film were the death/near-death scenes, most of which were really creative and interesting.
The filmmakers definitely get points for the effort of making the film, and for the creativity of it, but other than that there's not much to say. It was just fine.
Overall, this was an entertaining movie, but the writing and characters aren't great. The idea in itself was a lot better than its execution.
4/10
