The Da Vinci Code | 100 Movies Bucket List
I had heard of this film (and the book), but I never really had an interest in seeing it. Not only did I not know what it was about, but it seemed like one of those inaccessible stories that's really hard to understand.
So I can't say I wasn't a bit apprehensive when I chose this one.
Thankfully, it wasn't as inaccessible as I thought it would be. In fact, I ended up enjoying it much more than I thought I would.
That being said, I didn't find the plot as interesting as I wanted to.
Watching people uncover a mystery is in itself quite interesting, but I was a lot more interested in the characters than I was in what the actual mystery was.
And for me this was because the mystery was locked up in a lot of lore, mostly rooted in religion and art among other things that I wasn't particularly interested in, and so the deeper we got into this background, the less I cared about the story behind the mystery.
But as mentioned, I did really like the characters. I enjoyed following them and I liked seeing their interactions. Tom Hanks and Audrey Tautou have great chemistry and work really well together.
But there are also some amazing actors involved in this movie. Aside from Hanks and Tautou the film also stars Ian McKellan, Jean Reno, Paul Bettany and Alfred Molina and they all play their parts amazingly well.
The story did get more interesting as it went on, and it held my attention, but I never really cared about it as much as I needed to to love the film.
Nevertheless, I do understand why the film is on a bucket list, especially because the book it's based on is so highly regarded. But while I enjoyed it, it's not one that I'm dying to re-watch.
