After Everything | Film Review
After the events of the first four movies, Hardin (Hero Fiennes Tiffin) can't get over Tessa (Josephine Langford). With the deadline for his second book looming, and the wrongs of his past catching up with him, Hardin goes to Portugal to try and fix some of his mistakes.
As with all the other movies, this wasn't good. I didn't dislike it as much as some of the others, but it feels like they're being made to not be great on purpose at this point.
For a start, the film focussed on the least interesting of the two main characters. For me, when I'm watching these films, Tessa without Hardin is a lot more interesting than Hardin without Tessa. And if possible, Hardin became even more insufferable.
The film spends a lot of time reminding the audience how awful Hardin has been in the past in order to make his present self redeemable, but actually, it just makes us think that he's an awful person.
One the one hand, this film was engaging. But on the other hand, I'm still having a hard time really understanding what it was about.
It makes sense that this is the last one because there really is nowhere else the characters can go. They've actually become boring now.
One thing the film did really well was introduce the character of Natalie (Mimi Keene), who is the most interesting character introduced to this world in at least three movies.
To credit the writing, Hardin does better himself throughout the movie and has some character development. But as soon as he sees Tessa this completely disappears and almost makes it feel like the film wasn't really worth it.
Overall, this wasn't the worst movie in the franchise, but I'm glad the movies are finally over. I don't think there's anything new that could be added.
4/10
