Mistletoe & Menorahs | Blogmas Day 19

It’s Blogmas Day 19!

This is a Lifetime movie, which I picked because I really liked the premise, and it looked different to most of the other Blogmas movies that I’ve reviewed so far.

When Christy (Kelley Jakle) has to learn about Hanukkah at work to land a big account, she enlists the help of Jonathan (Jake Epstein), who needs to learn about Christmas to impress his girlfriend's father.

Even before starting the film, the concept is original – not only because of the mix of Christmas and Hanukkah, but also because the main characters are in separate relationships when the film starts.

The idea of the story feels fairly realistic – not necessarily the reasons for these people needing to learn about the other’s culture, but just the idea of two people teaching each other about their worlds and falling for each other as they learn more about each other. I love that.

The actors, and their characters, have good chemistry and are fun to watch.

I have mentioned that the main characters were in their own relationships, and I found it really interesting that neither of the other partners came across as a bad person, or the reason for the break-up. It was clear that each couple had their own issues, but I actually quite liked the other halves of these characters. They felt real, and were actually quite likeable.

But I didn't love them as much as I loved the main characters. They had such great personalities that blended together really well. It was also fun to see them learn from each other (though it was a bit weird to me that they both had just never heard or learnt anything about either Hanukkah or Christmas.)

The story is really cute. You're rooting for the characters to get together the entire time.

Overall, this film is much more enjoyable than I thought it would be. It’s definitely one to watch again next Christmas!

Originality – 5/10

Christmas Spirit – 4/10

Christmas Music – 3/10

It's 6 days until Christmas!

Come back tomorrow for Blogmas day 20!
