50 Questions About Books!

Hey Guys x

It's been a while since I've done a tag! Especially one about books!

I found this tag on 'My Little Book Blog' and thought that it looked really interesting, so I'm going to answer the questions. Feel free to answer them yourselves, but leave me a comment with your blog link so I can read them!

1. What was the last book you read?
'All That She Can See' by Carrie Hope Fletcher. I've got other books that i'm almost finished with, but that's the last one that I've completely read from start to finish.

2. Was it a good one?
Yes it was, it was amazing actually.

3. What made it good?
It was such a unique story, something that I've never even thought about before. Carrie is very good at mixing fantasy and reality, and I love that about this book.

4. Would you recommend it to other people?
I really would, whether you're a fan of her or not, the book is definitely worth a read.

5. How often do you read?
Well, as I'm preparing to go back to uni soon, I'm reading every day just so that I don't fall behind before I even start!

6. Do you like to read?
For leisure, yes, definitely. When I'm being forced to read for my course, if the book's not good then it's definitely a drag. But otherwise yes, I do.

7. What was the last bad book you read?
The thing with me is that, I always say to myself that life is too short to waste time on a shit book, so if I don't like a book in the first 30-60 pages, I don't bother with it, so I can't remember the last bad book I read. However, the last book that I didn't really connect with at all was (another YouTuber book), Wilde Like Me by Louise Pentland. It sucks because I love her so much, and I'm definitely going to give the book another try, but so far I just can't get into it.

8. What made you dislike it?
As I said, I just couldn't really connect with it. To me, it felt like reading about a single mother, going about with her life. And as well as that, I couldn't really disconnect it from the author, I was seeing Louise and her daughter Darcy as I was reading it, which didn't help!

9. Do you wish to be a writer?
Yes. I've always wanted to be an author, but now I'm more into screenwriting than book writing, but I love to write and create all the same.

10. Has any book ever influenced you greatly?
I guess so. I can't think of any off the top of my head, but there must be something that made me want to write.

11. Do you read fan fiction?
YES! I am a fan fiction junkie, I love it so much. It really makes my favourite movies and tv shows come to life.

12. Do you write fan fiction?
I do. I write more fan fiction than anything else these days and it's my favourite thing to do.

13. What's your favourite book?
That's a hard question! My two favourite books in the entire world are 'Nobody's Girl' by Sara Manning and '10 Things We Shouldn't Have Done' by Sarah Mlynowski. Two amazing coming-of-age books that you should definitely check out!

14. What's your least favourite book?
Probably something that I've had to read for my English lit course! The only problem is I don't remember the ones I hated!

15. Do you prefer physical books or reading on a device?
I definitely prefer physical books. I look at screens enough during the day to have to look at them while I'm reading!

16. When did you learn to read?
From a very young age I was reading, can't remember exactly when though!

17. What is your favourite book you had to read in school?
I have three, An Inspector Calls, The Great Gatsby and Of Mice and Men. They're three books of different genres that are exciting and captivating in equal measure. I hope they continue to be taught in schools!

18. What is your favourite book series?
I'm gonna be totally cliche and say the Harry Potter series, because I love both the movies and the books. I can't actually think of a series that I like, even as much as this one, apart from the 'Shopaholic' series, but the movie let it down!

19. Who is your favourite author?
Sophie Kinsella, without question. Or Giovanna Fletcher. They're the only two authors whose books I pre-order before even reading the descriptions, just because I know that they'll be amazing!

20. What is your favourite genre?
Romance without a doubt, although I've just started reading Bram Stoker's 'Dracula' and have found a love for the vampire/fantasy genre, but romance is always my go-to.

21. Who is your favourite character in a book series?
Becky Brandon from Sophie Kinsella's 'Shopaholic' series. She's the funniest, loveliest, silliest character and I love her to pieces!

22. Has a book ever transported you somewhere?
For sure. If you've ever wanted to be transported somewhere, read 'A Wrinkle In Time', because that'll do it for sure!

23. Which book do you wish had a sequel?
Every time I finish reading a book, I wish it had a sequel! Off the top of my head, 'Nobody's Girl' by Sara Manning, 'What's Your Number' by Sophie Kinsella, and 'Everything, Everything' by Nicola Yoon.

24. Which book do you wish DIDN'T have a sequel?
That's a hard question! I'd never want to wish less books into the world, or take away an author's hard work.

25. How long does it take you to read a book?
A LONG time. I'm quite a slow reader so it does take me a bit of time, even if I do like the book. but obviously it does take me quicker to read a book that I actually like.

26. Do you like when books become movies?
I do, because movies are my biggest love. And we're now getting to the point where movies are beginning to become better than their book counterparts, so I always look forward to movies that have come from books.

27. Which book was ruined by its movie adaptation?
Confessions of a Shopaholic. The Shopaholic series in general is such an amazing set of books! The movie was below average, in my opinion. Not one that I'll be watching again for a while.

28. Which movie has done a book justice?
There's so many! The movie version of the book 'If I Stay' by Gayle Forman was actually better than the book, The Fault In Our Stars was also a really good adaptation of film to book.

29. Do you read newspapers?
Nope. Never really have, probably never will now that everything is online.

30. Do you read magazines?
I do! I love reading all the celebrity gossip and information!

31. Do you prefer newspapers or magazines?
As you can tell, magazines!

32. Do you read while in bed?
No. The light in my bedroom is so dim that it doesn't permit reading unfortunately.

33. Do you read while on the toilet?
Yes, not really books but definitely magazines, or 'children's books' like 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' and the 'Two of a Kind' series.

34. Do you read while in the car?
No, reading in the car gives me motion sickness, it's really not worth it!

35. Do you read while in the bath?
No, because I'm paranoid about accidentally dropping the book in the bath! Instead I watch Gossip Girl on my laptop, far away from the bath!

36. Are you a fast reader?
Nope.

37. Are you a slow reader?
Yep!

38. Where is your favourite place to read?
At home, sitting on the couch, as I am now while I'm writing this. I'm like Sheldon Cooper from the Big Bang Theory in the sense that I have my spot that no one else is allowed to sit in.

39. Is it hard for you to concentrate while you read?
Not if I actually like what I'm reading. If I don't like it, any little thing can become a distraction.

40. Do you need a room to be silent while you read?
Again, it depends on whether I like the book or not. If I like it, then I can read regardless of the background noise. If I don't like it, or if I'm being forced to read it for uni, every sound is a potential distraction, so I like to have silence.

41. Who gave you your love of reading?
Roald Dahl, and Jacqueline Wilson, for definite! They're books were amazing to me as a kid and now as an adult.

42. What book is next on your list to read?
I have books that I need to finish! So next on my list to finish are 'Dracula' by Bram Stoker and 'Hot Mess' by Lucy Vine, which is hilarious so far!

43. When did you start to read chapter books?
I don't remember, but at a young age for sure!

44. Who is your favourite children's book author?
Roald Dahl and Jacqueline Wilson, as I mentioned earlier. They sparked my interest in books long ago!

45. Which author would you most like to interview?
Sophie Kinsella, Giovanna Fletcher or Carrie Hope Fletcher. Any of those and I'd be completely over the moon!

46. Which author do you think you'd be friends with?
Carrie Hope Fletcher, for sure. We have so many similar interests, which is why I love what she does.

47. Which book have you re-read the most?
'Shopaholic and Baby' by Sophie Kinsella, 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' by J.K Rowling and 'Nobody's Girl' by Sara Manning.

48. Which books do you consider 'classics'?
Anything on an English Literature degree reading list!

49. Which books do you think should be taught in every school?
The thing about reading at school is that, if you're being forced to read a book, you're not really going to like it, are you? That being said, I think it would be great if more fantasy books were taught in schools, to really have kids using their imaginations.
I also think a form of fanfiction should be taught in school, where students are encouraged to take their favourite thing about their favourite book (be it a character, world, storyline etc) and run with it to create something new entirely without having to start from scratch.

50. Which books should be banned from all schools?
I don't think any books should be banned from schools, but I do think that the curriculum should be banned from forcing kids to read books that are gonna make them hate reading, such as Jane Eyre or Sense and Sensibility. Reading is important, but what is more important it making sure that people actually want to do it.

Thanks for reading this long tag! Please answer the questions yourself, I'd love to see your answers!

  1. OMG, so many questions! I might have to attempt this tag. I agree with you on the last two questions. I think kids should be able to choose their own books as often as possible. Forcing kids to read uninteresting books will make them dislike reading.
