A Christmas Proposal | Blogmas Day 16
It's Blogmas day 16!
When Jason (Joshua T. Shipman) is forced to move for work, and his girlfriend cannot go with him because they are not married, he creates an elaborate plan to propose by Christmas.
So apparently there are two films with the same name, made in the same year, and it looks like I picked the worst of the two!
From the very beginning, the tone of the film is really odd. It was taking itself way too seriously for what is supposed to be a light Christmas movie.
The plot didn't really make much sense. A few times throughout the film there was a point made that the character didn't want to be with his girlfriend, and had actually requested a be transferred to get away from her. So why are we watching him plan a proposal? Why is he planning a proposal in the first place?
There were really weird moments throughout the film where the sound quality would drastically change when a character was speaking but not on camera, despite supposedly being in the same room. This would have been okay with me if the actual story was a good one, but because I wasn't enjoying it, those moments of low quality were a lot more noticeable.
It felt like no effort was put into writing the story or creating the characters. The actors did the best with what they were given, but they weren't given very much.
The filmmakers also tried a bit too hard to make this a Christmas movie and it never really worked for me. Yes presents were given, and Christmas was given as a deadline, but nothing else felt particularly Christmassy.
It was quite a short movie but watching it felt like a real slog. If I looked up at the end and saw 3 hours had passed I wouldn't have been surprised.
Overall, I've still got a few to watch but I think this may be not only the worst Blogmas film this year, but potentially the worst of all time. Definitely not one I'd recommend.
