Another late post round-up!

Book Review #104: Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid - My first post of July was a book review. I had heard a lot about this book before reading it, but I felt a bit disappointed by it.

Halloween Kills | Film Review - My first film review of July, a pointless sequel to an otherwise great franchise.

Four Good Days | Film Review - I enjoyed this film - an interesting plot with great characters and actors. Definitely worth watching!

Jurassic World Dominion | Film Review - Another film that I enjoyed, though it definitely wasn't the best in the franchise.

My Fake Boyfriend | Film Review - The last film I reviewed in July was one that I didn't love, and probably won't be watching again.

Back to the Future | 100 Movies Bucket List

And number 100 in the 100 movies bucket list is the film that I personally believe is the best film ever made - Back to the Future! I left this one until last because it's my favourite movie of all time and there was no way I wasn't ending the challenge with it. I've probably seen this film and its sequels upwards of 100 times, so it's weird to sit down and actually write something about it when it's been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. So I'm gonna start with the music and score, as this was the thing that stood out to me the most on this rewatch. Now of course, if you've seen the movie and think about the music the first thing that comes to mind is probably 'The Power of Love' by Huey Lewis and the News, and that makes sense because it's an amazing song. A Clockwork Orange | 100 Movies Bucket List

Next up for the bucket list was a highly anticipated first-time watch. The first time I heard of this film was back in school during an English class - we had to pick classic films to write essays on and one of my classmates picked this one. I didn't completely know what it was about, but since then it has always been in the back of my mind to watch eventually. And it didn't surprise me at all that it was on this list. When I was trying to find somewhere to watch it, I did some accidental research about it. I had no idea it was so controversial, and seeing that made me want to watch it even more. But ultimately, I ended up having quite negative feelings on the movie as a whole. For one, I'm not someone who shies away from violent movies, even when the violence is graphic. But there was something about the violence in this movie that kind of put me off. It wasn't really about the violence itself, or the way it was done, but more about the character. It's hard to foll

Casablanca | 100 Movies Bucket List

Next up, and third to last on the bucket list, is Casablanca - a film that I'd never seen but had been waiting to watch all year. When I took a film course at uni I watched a couple of Humphrey Bogart movies and always liked his performances. So this film had always been on my radar, even if I hadn't had a strong desire to watch it until now. It wasn't really what I thought it was going to be.  For a start, it sits in the romance genre. And while it is definitely the story of a relationship, and there is romance within it, I wanted more. A lot more. The actors had great chemistry, but I never really felt like their characters had the epic love story that the film tried to portray. Having said that, I did absolutely love all of the characters. Even the ones we're supposed to hate are written and portrayed really well, and feel extremely authentic. The Great Dictator | 100 Movies Bucket List

Next up for the bucket list was a film that I hadn't heard of. I'm familiar with Charlie Chaplin, but moreso for his silent films than for anything else, so I didn't really have any idea what this film would be about. And once I did look up the premise, it wasn't one that I was particularly excited to see. I knew that it probably wouldn't be one of my favourites, so it wasn't a surprise that I didn't love it. For a start, as a fan of some of Chaplin's other movies, this movie felt very different, which caught me a bit off guard I appreciated the satire, but it might just be that it isn't as funny for a modern audience, or maybe that it's just not my kind of humour, but a lot of it didn't work for me. It also felt way longer than it needed to be. The runtime itself wasn't a problem as it's just over 2 hours, but a lot of the scenes felt like they could have been shorter. The themes of the film were very ambitious for when it was made.

Her | 100 Movies Bucket List

This one was a re-watch that I was really looking forward to seeing again. I first saw it around the time Joker came out and I remember really liking it, so it was one that I saved until later in the bucket list so I could have something to look forward to. But weirdly, my experience of it was completely different on this re-watch. The things about the main character that I found endearing originally put me off this time around. I didn't really like the character at all and I couldn't connect with him. I also didn't find it as profound as I remember finding it the first time. The love story didn't feel as innocent or endearing and I never felt truly invested. I don't know if it's because of how AI-heavy the world is right now, but it just felt really weird. I do like the concept, but I think the characters are where it fell down a bit for me. And that's not to say I hated the film this time. I still think it's a good film that's well-made, it just wa
