Hey Guys x

This film comes out in the UK on the Sky Premiere Channels, and also in cinemas, a week today, so make sure you go and see it when it's out!

Dave (Alexander England) is going through a break-up, sleeping on his sister's couch, and feels like his life is going nowhere. So when he gets the opportunity to co-chaperone his nephew's school trip, he jumps at the chance to help out... especially if it means spending more time with school teacher Miss Caroline (Lupita Nyong'o). But when the class is soon at the mercy of a group of zombies, will Dave be able to step up and save the children, and himself?

I went into this film expecting it to be a bit silly, and nothing to write home about, but I ended up completely loving it!

For a start, it has one of the most entertaining opening scenes. It gives away absolutely nothing about where the film is going, but it's a great way to get to know our main character as if he's someone we've known forever rather than for a few seconds.

Speaking of which, Dave is such an endearing, hilarious and likeable main character. I think the most likeable thing about him is that, at the beginning of the film, he's doing so many unlikeable things, but you can't help but immediately warm to him. He's the perfect character for a movie like this.

One of the things that excited me about this movie as I started watching (because I knew nothing going in) was that it was a combination of my two favourite genres - Rom-Com and Horror (from now on known as Zom-Com). They're two genres that you never really see together (and in a sense, calling it 'rom' is a bit of a stretch), but there needs to be more movies that combine these genres because they fit so well together.

Speaking of genres, I'm not really into Zombie movies as a genre, but this isn't a regular Zom-Com at all. From what I can see, it's completely original, and for a zombie movie, the zombies aren't the focal point at all, which really worked.

And again with genres, it is truly a comedy because it's absolutely hilarious. Moments that you don't think are going to be funny end up making you laugh, and moments that you think will make you laugh turn out to be heartfelt.

The whole cast is amazing. As well as Alexander England and Lupita Nyong'o, the film also stars Josh Gad as Teddy McGiggle and Diesel La Torraca, who does an amazing job as Felix, Dave's nephew. I can't think of more perfect casting for any of these roles.

One of the best things about the movie is the use of music. It's a really nice touch, because it's important to the film without the film having to rely on it. Each song completely changes the tone of whatever scene it's in, and some of those moments are the most beautiful.

Overall, in this film we have A+ character development, humour, heartfelt moments, romance, fun, zombies... what more could you want?

8/10

Lou
