My Favourite Movies | A-Z

Hey Guys x

As you know, I love movies! But I didn't have a specific movie that I wanted to review, so I thought I'd do something I've never done before.

So basically, I'm going to share with you one of my favourite movies for every letter of the alphabet (aside from q and x - there are no great movies that begin with q or x that I've seen!)

So this should be fun! At least, coming up with these movies was fun!

Also, let me know in the comments, what some of your favourite movies are, which of my favourites you've seen and your recommendations for me!

My Favourite Movies!

A - About Time

I love this movie so much! You can tell, because I've put it in this list rather than 'The Avengers', which is one of my favourite movies ever! But yeah, this movie is so romantic and makes me want to fall in love right now! It's a time travel movie, but there are so many different elements to it that feed into the story and make this a really worthwhile watch!

B - Back to the Future

This one was obvious as this is easily my favourite movie of all time and, coincidentally, another time travel movie! I've talked about this a lot, but I am such a huge fan of this film, it's a timeless classic, and you really need to watch it if you haven't!

C - Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Of course I picked this because the third installment, Captain America: Civil War is now out in the UK (and I'm seeing it on Saturday!!) but I think it's one of the best MCU movies, and definitely the best Captain America movie! Plus, Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan are an incredible combination! I watched this before seeing the first Captain America movie and understood it, but it makes more sense to watch the movies leading up to this first!

D - Definitely, Maybe

Of course Ryan Reynolds had to be here at some point! But this film is so great! It's about a man who is telling his daughter the story of how he met her mother. There are three possibilities that interlink and the daughter is trying to work out which woman from the story is her mother. This is a really sweet film, and I really like the relationship between father and daughter. If you haven't seen it and you like romance, give it a try!

E - East is East

This is a film that takes me right back to my childhood! It's about an Asian family (or half Asian, the mother's white) and all the stereotypes that come along with being an Asian family living in Britain with a super-strict father who basically wants to bring the kids up as fully Pakistani rather than half British. This is such a funny film which cleverly features some serious topics. I first saw it when I was really young and ever since, I watch it every time it comes on. My mum, sister and I have even seen the play version of it, which was just as good as the film!

F - The Five-Year Engagement

This film is seriously underrated, but it's so amazing! It's about a couple who get engaged, and then, through different events, end up putting off their wedding and resenting each other for the various reasons that forced them to put off their wedding. The main female character is Emily Blunt, who is one of my favourite actresses ever, and the male supporting character is Chris Pratt, who I also love a lot! All in all, it's less of a rom-com and more of a drama-rom, but I watch it every time it comes on and would urge you to give it a watch and see what you think!

G - Grease

When I think of my childhood, this is the main movie that comes to mind! Grease is the definition of a classic and I will never get bored of it. If you don't know, it's a musical set in a high school, between a guy and girl who had a love affair over the summer, but back at school with his friends, he acts like he wants nothing to do with her! The songs are phenomenal and to this day I still know all the words! I'm not even recommending this, I'm telling you that this is a film you need to see!

H - Harry Potter

This is the whole franchise in general - I'm a huge fan of the series! Harry Potter is something that you just have to love - it's so interesting and entertaining. Reading the books definitely enhances the experience of watching the films. And yes, watching Harry Potter is an experience!

I - Iron Man

Another Marvel movie! I'm a huge fan of Iron Man the movie, and of Robert Downey Jr! Forget that it's part of the MCU, it's just a really great action movie with twists and turns and excitement! I kind of wish that I could forget the whole MCU and watch this again completely blind without knowing how the characters would end up. But Iron Man the character is a great superhero, so the film is awesome!

J - Jeepers Creepers

The first horror movie of the list! This is about a brother and sister who are travelling home from college when the come across a man driving a truck who seems to be following them. When the lose him, they end up finding out where he lives and exploring the area - until they discover that he's been watching them the whole time! It's such a great film, and it definitely isn't scary enough to give you nightmares or keep you up at night which is always a plus!

K - Kidulthood

This film is... important I think. It's set in the England (I think London but I can't be sure) and it's about being a teenager amidst gangs and violence and drugs and teen pregnancies etc. I watched it when I was about 14 or 15, and even though I didn't grow up with these threats, it still resonated with me and made me think, which is really important. It's quite an old film now, so it might be difficult for you to find it to watch it, but if you get the opportunity, watch it and compare it to your own life, whether you're a teenager, or your teenage years are long gone!

L - Love Actually

This is a Christmas film, and is so lovely! It's basically about loads of different people whose lives are interlinked as they try (and some fail!) to find love during Christmas time. It's a feel-good film that doesn't require too much concentration. I loved seeing all of the characters and picking the ones that I liked the most, and which stories were most relatable!

M - Mamma Mia

I'd only seen this for the first time recently and fell completely in love with it! I love the music of ABBA, so of course I'd like it! It's about a girl called Sophie who doesn't know who her father is. However, she's getting married, so she invites the three possible fathers to her wedding so she can figure out who the right man is. Singing along to this film is so much fun because they're songs that you can really get your teeth into and fall in love with!

N - The Nanny Diaries

This is such an underrated film, I can't say that enough! Scarlett Johansson stars as Annie Braddock, a girl who gets mistaken for a nanny and ends up working for  family, the X's, whose son is called Grayer. Annie falls deeper and deeper into the world of nanny-ing and, while meeting Harvard Hottie (Chris Evans) along the way, she discovers who she is, and helps the X's discover why it is that they hired her in the first place. This is a great film, definitely give it a chance!

O - The Omen

Another horror movie! This film is about a couple who give birth to a boy who is suspected to be the devil. I've seen all the films in this series I think, and they were all really good and entertaining, but if you're not into 'devil' films, you may want to avoid this one! But if that doesn't bother you, watch the first one because I really enjoyed it!

P - Paranormal Activity

Again, I've seen all the films in this series and some have been better than others! But overall, it's a great series, particularly the first, third and fourth installments. It's about paranormal activity in the household. The first three are about the same family at different times and points in their lives. The last three are different families but are still connected to the original family. If you like horror, it's definitely worth a watch!

R - Raise Your Voice

Another film from my childhood that I really miss watching! It's about a girl called Terri who wants to be a singer, but her dad refuses to send her to the school that she wanted to go to. But then something happens (#nospoilers), her mum and aunt send her without her father's permission. She discovers a whole side of herself that she didn't even know existed, and lived for her, not her father. This is an emotional, amazing film with some great musical numbers - and of course, Hilary Duff is awesome!

S - Scary Movie

The Scary Movie franchise is one of my favourite series' of films ever - I'm actually gonna find an excuse to watch the second one tonight because I've been craving it for weeks! These films basically parody well-known horror films in the funniest way possible. Parodies of any kind fit right in with my sense of humour, so this is definitely something that I enjoy - especially because I've seen most of the films that they're parodying!

T - Taken

I don't think I know anyone that didn't like this film! It's one of the best action films that I've ever seen! It's about a girl who goes on holiday to Paris with her best friend. But then, as the title reveals, she gets taken. However, what the kidnappers don't know is that her father, played by Liam Neeson, has a very specific skill-set and knows exactly what he's doing! This film is so exciting and I really enjoyed it! I mean, making the second and third seemed a bit like overkill, but the first one is definitely one to watch!

U - Urban Legend

I've spoken about this film before, but it had to be here because I just love it - it's one of my favourite horror movies ever! It's about a group of college students, where a killer is going around campus and killing people based on well-known urban legends. It's such a simple idea, but it's really effective and the film itself is scary enough to be really good, but not scary enough for nightmares!

V - Valentine's Day

This is basically the American version of Love Actually. It's about a multitude of people who are finding love around Valentine's day, and their stories are all interconnected. It's a really sweet film, if a bit cliche in the romance department! But I don't mind cliches, in fact, I love them!

W - What's Your Number

Chris Evans and Anna Faris - the perfect rom-com combination! Anna plays Ally, a girl who has slept with 19 people and has decided that she won't sleep with any more until she finds the person that she wants to marry. The she sleeps with number 20, and decides that, to not go over 20, she will have to fall in love with someone that she's already slept with. So she enlists the help of Chris, aka Colin, to find all of her ex's so that she can fall in love with one of them. Also featuring Chris Pratt (Anna's real-life husband) and Anthony Mackie, this is such a fun film and to romance in it is really realistic, making it an amazing watch!

Y - You. Me and Dupree

This is another from my childhood. it's about a newly married couple who end up taking in the husband's best friend who's just had a break-up. It's the worst situation, because you want to be there for your friend, but you want to have couple time! This is what makes it so relatable and funny. Plus, Owen Wilson is just hilarious in general, so that's reason alone to watch it!

Z - Zodiac

OK, so, Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo and Robert Downey Jr are another amazing combination that make this film awesome! It's the story of a journalist trying to find the Zodiac killer. I hadn't heard much about the Zodiac killer before this film, but the story is really interesting - if that's your kind of thing!

There are so many films that I didn't mention, so if you like this, I might do another part to it!

Thank you for reading!
