Hey Guys x

This wasn't a film that I was particularly excited to see, but a combination of the fact that I'm a fan of Rose Byrne, the premise seemed relatively interesting, and having time on my hands on a Sunday evening meant that I picked this.

Mia (Tiffany Haddish) and Mel (Rose Byrne) are best friends who run their own (struggling) business. When they are offered the chance to get their business bought out by Claire Luna (Salma Hayek), the friends disagree, and through navigating the world of business, their friendship gets put to the test.

I didn't really enjoy this film. It was enjoyable enough, but it wasn't one that you'd have particularly strong feelings about.

Byrne and Haddish have a really interesting dynamic, particularly because they are known for playing vastly different roles, so you wouldn't expect to see them gel together as well as they have. And their different dynamics work in their favour. They have good chemistry.
However, the film doesn't focus on this as much as it could. It would have been really interesting for the film to fully commit to focusing just on their friendship, rather than the lacklustre story-line that kept forcing itself to the forefront.

Another thing that the film focuses on is the comedy, which works well for the most part. None of it is really laugh-out-loud funny, but there's enough of it to keep the film entertaining, even if some of it falls flat and feels more than a bit juvenile in places.

My main problem with the film was how predictable it was. It gets to a point where, because you can pretty much guess everything that's going to happen, you lose interest.
In other words, the film starts to get boring around halfway through, and it never really picks up again.

The end of the film is nice, but it's not good enough to make the rest of the film seem worthwhile.

Overall, there's nothing about this film that really makes me want to recommend it. There are better films out there with similar premises - but the dynamic between Byrne and Haddish is interesting enough to possibly make you glad you saw it.

4/10
