Throwback Holiday | Blogmas Day 3

It’s Blogmas day 3!

I saw this film on Amazon Prime and added it to my list because I recognised the two main actors from different TV shows, and was interested to see them work together. The premise, while not necessarily original for a Christmas movie, was interesting enough to warrant watching.

While feeling unfulfilled with the way her life has turned out, a chance encounter with a former classmate causes Jacqueline (Jennifer Freeman) to wish to go back to high school for a do-over.

The film throws a lot at the audience in such a short space of time, without making us really care about these characters.

Neither the acting nor the writing is great. The plot doesn't hold up because the characters aren't well-written, and the characters don't work because the plot isn't great.

While I usually like this plot in movies (especially Christmas movies) it wasn’t done well here. For example, the actors don't look young enough to be high school students – it isn’t realistic. It also felt over-complicated. This story could have been told in a much simpler way.

It also feels a lot slower than it needed to be. It takes a long time for anything to happen.

The relationships between all of the characters is never really established, whether that’s romantic relationships or friendships, so the audience doesn't particularly feel one way or the other about them.

By the end of the film, I did feel like I had warmed to the main characters, but again, I didn't really care about them.

Overall, this doesn't really feel like a Christmas movie, and while the story is interesting, it isn’t told in the best way.

Originality – 4/10

Christmas Spirit – 2/10

Christmas Music – 3/10

It’s 22 days until Christmas!

Come back tomorrow for Blogmas day 4!
