How It Ends | Film Review

Image
Hey Guys x I saw this a few days after it came out on Netflix, and I have to admit that the only thing about it that appealed to me was that it starred Kat Graham, who is one of my favourite actresses - I wasn't particularly intrigued by the concept. The film is about a man who is visiting his almost-in-laws when disaster strikes. When he finds himself in the middle of, what feels like, the end of the world, he and his father-in-law-to-be must get across the country and back to his pregnant fiancee before it's too late. I have mixed feelings about this film. The beginning of it was really good. You get to see a little bit of what Will and Sam are like as a couple, you get to see Will's dynamic with Sam's parents, and when the apocalypse starts to happen, you get to see how tough Sam's father really is. And then it gets a bit... tedious. They're driving for a long time, and it seems like the entire world is out to get them, in the same way that has

Finishing University For Good!

Image
Hey Guys x So as I mentioned in my last university round-up post, which you can read HERE , I mentioned that I couldn't really relax until I got my results, because then I would know for sure if I was completely finished and whether or not the last three years had been worth it. I never talk about end of year results, because they don't matter as much as the final year results. In other words, everything I've done at uni for the last three years had been leading to this. I got a 2.1!! Even writing that feels really weird because it doesn't seem true. I feel like I'm just writing what I wanted to get and not what I actually got, and I'm in the very fortunate position for that to be the same thing. So, as you can tell from my happiness with my result, I'm completely done. I am now an adult graduate with a degree in English Literature with Creative Writing, and again, it feels weird to even be writing that. I guess the point of this post is jus

Skyscraper | Film Review

Hey Guys x I saw this film opening weekend and couldn't wait to review it. Usually I'm not first in line for the big blockbusters, but I decided to make an exception for this. It's about a former FBI agent and war veteran called Will Sawyer. He is working in the tallest building in the world, situated in Hong Kong, and his family are the only residents of said building. While he is away, the building catches on fire, trapping his family inside, and he is framed for causing the blaze. While on the run, he has to find a way to get back inside and save his family. But how do you break into the world's tallest, safest building? And even if he gets inside, who started the fire in the first place? I really really enjoyed this movie. I've heard that's quite an unpopular opinion, but it's mine. I heard this film being described as 'absurd entertainment' and I think that that's exactly what it is. Because yes, it is extremely absurd. I saw the

Truth or Dare | Film Review

Image
Hey Guys x As you may know, I'm a huge horror fan. And you may also know that I'm a HUGE fan of Blumhouse, the production company behind 'Get Out', 'Happy Death Day', 'Paranormal Activity' etc, 'Insidious' etc, 'The Purge' etc, and 'Split', to name some of my all-time favourite horror movies and franchises. So as you can tell, I have high hopes for everything they put their name to, and this was no different. It's about a group of college students about to graduate. when they decide to head to Mexico for a final trip together. While there, one of the friends, Olivia, meets a guy who invites her and her friends to play (you guessed it) truth or dare. They agree and play. But then the guy turns out to be a creep. The group think nothing of it and go home, where they find that they haven't stopped playing the game. Except, there are different rules - if you lie, you die. If you refuse a dare, you die. But can the friend

Acrimony | Film Review

Hey Guys x I saw this a few weeks ago and wanted to review it straight away, even though I wasn't completely sure how I felt about it. The description states that it is about a faithful wife who becomes enraged when she discovers that her husband has been cheating on her. I say 'the description' because, once you see the movie, you'll know that this isn't particularly accurate to the movie at all, which is another reason why I'm not sure how to feel about it. It was marketed as one thing but completely turned into something else. The first thing I'll say about the film is that it begins really slowly, and it takes a while for you to get into it. But once you're into it, you're into it. You become invested in the lives of both the husband and wife no matter whose side you're on. In fact, something that the film does really well is that, you don't really know whose side to be on at first. Both sides did good and bad things. Even tho

The First Purge | Film Review

Image
Hey Guys x I went to see this yesterday in a pretty lively cinema, and however I felt about the film, it was such a fun experience that I'd definitely recommend seeing it in the cinema. As you can see from the title, it's about The First Purge. If you've seen the previous three films, you'll know what this means. If not, in this movie, the Purge is an experiment designed to reduce crime to 1% for 364 days of the year by allowing all crime to be completely legal for one 12 hour period. But something isn't as it seems. What is the real purpose of this experiment? And who are the real targets? I thought this film was amazing! Definitely the best of the four (with the first one a close second), and I would completely urge everyone to see it. One criticism I've seen about the movie is that it is violent. And I have to agree that it is VERY violent. Now in my opinion, this isn't a bad thing at all, as a lot of it was necessary for the realism of the movi

Blockers | Film Review

Hey Guys x This came out a while ago, so I'm sorry that it's taken me such a long time to get around to reviewing it. But either way, here's my review! The movie is about three girls who are high school seniors (in the UK, they would be in college about to go to university) and they've made a pact to lose their virginity on prom night. However, they each have a parent who is overprotective. When these three parents find out about their daughter's pact, they put a plan in motion to stop their children before they cross the finish line. I absolutely loved this film. I've seen a lot of coming-of-age films, and this one was definitely one of the most fun ones. The idea of losing your virginity is a big deal to the parents, but to the kids it just seems like a right of passage - something to do before they head off to college. But whether it's a big deal or not, the film isn't focused on whether or not this happens for them, which is what makes it f

Adrift | Film Review

Hey Guys x I saw this the day that it came out in the UK - I wanted to see it since I first saw the trailer months ago, because it just looked like a nail-biting, thrilling movie with a healthy influx of romance, and that really excited me. It's about two people called Tami and Richard who meet unexpectedly and fall in love extremely quickly. When they get an offer to sail a family friend's boat from Tahiti to California for a hefty reward, they go for it, taking a romantic journey through calm seas. However, they don't count on sailing into one of the worst hurricanes in recorded history. So when Tami wakes up alone, she automatically thinks the worst. Even after she finds Richard, she can't let go of the feeling that they're going to die. However, due to Richard's horrific injuries, she knows that it's up to her. She can give up hope, or she could find the strength within herself to keep them alive, no matter what. I thought this film was amazing.
