Love Hard | Blogmas Day 1
Welcome to Blogmas day 1!
This is a Netflix movie that came out in November. If I’m
right, it was the start of Netflix's Christmas movies this year, so it seemed
like the best one to start with. Also, it stars Nina Dobrev, who I’m a big fan of.
After finding love on a dating app, Natalie (Nina Dobrev) flies to Josh's (Jimmy O'Yang) hometown to visit him for Christmas, only to discover that she's been catfished.
I really liked the premise of this film. It is a really
modern take on the usual Christmas rom-com genre, and it did seem like the
filmmakers wanted to make it original.
I love all the characters, particularly the two main
characters, and Josh’s family. Even the characters that we’re not really supposed
to like are well-written and serve their purpose.
For me, this was a great movie to start Blogmas with because
it allows you to build up your anticipation and excitement for Christmas without
hitting you over the head with it. It is clearly set at Christmas, but Christmas
isn’t the main focus.
Natalie and Josh are great main characters with a lot of natural
chemistry.
Natalie as a character feels like a bunch of writers got
together to create a stereotypical ‘millennial', but I actually thought this was
done quite well. She felt real, and even if you don't always agree with her
decisions, she’s relatable.
This is quite a simple story, but told really well, with great
characters.
If I had one complaint, I would have liked the relationships
to have had a bit more development. It is predictable enough that we know what will
happen, but it would have been nice for this to be shown in the characters
actions, rather than just their words.
I loved the ending. Again, it was predictable, but it ended
the way I wanted it to.
Overall, this was a great movie to start Blogmas with, and I
would definitely recommend it to anyone, even if you don’t usually enjoy Christmas
movies.
Originality – 7/10
Christmas spirit – 4/10
Christmas Music – 6/10 (mainly for the cover of ‘Baby It’s
Cold Outside')
It’s 24 days until Christmas!
Come back tomorrow for Blogmas day 2!
