Look Both Ways | Film Review

Image
This is a film that came out on Netflix recently. I really liked the basic premise, and I like Lili Reinhart as an actress, so this was one that was quickly added to my 'to-watch' list. On the evening of her graduation, Natalie's (Lili Reinhart) life splits into parallel realities. I really liked this film. I actually liked it a lot more than I thought I would. This is a unique story with a really interesting premise. While neither of the stories would have been great on their own, the combining of these two stories makes for a compelling watch. I liked the way the film was shot - particularly when the two universes came together and ran simultaneously in the same locations. The characters are interesting and really well-written. They all feel authentic and real. In addition to Lili Reinhart as Natalie, the film also stars Danny Ramirez as Gabe, David Corenswet as Jake, Aisha Dee as Cara, Nia Long as Lucy, and Andrea Savage and Luke Wilson as Natalie's parents Tina and

Anything's Possible | Film Review

I knew nothing about this movie until it came out on Amazon Prime Video, but I instantly liked the premise, so I thought I'd give it a try. When Khal (Abubakr Ali) falls for transgender classmate Kelsa (Eva Reign), he decides to ask her out despite the drama it could cause. I really liked this movie. For a start, I loved Kelsa as a character. Not only is she well-written, interesting and fun to watch, but I loved seeing her relationships with the people in her life. Kelsa and Khal have a great friendship/relationship. The characters and actors have great chemistry, and are adorable to watch. The story itself is really sweet, and easy to watch. The film deals with complex issues in an interesting way. It doesn't delve too deeply, but you can sympathise with the characters because they're so relatable, even if you haven't gone through the specific issues that they have. The 3rd act conflict is a good one. While a bit predictable, it's not necessarily easily solved. Ul

Marry Me | Film Review

I have wanted to see this film for a while, not only because I'm a fan of the main actors, but because the plot (as convoluted and unrealistic as the trailer looked) seemed like it would be cute and funny, so I'm glad I finally got the chance to see it. After finding out about her fiancé's infidelity, musician Kat Valdez (Jennifer Lopez) decides to marry Charlie Gilbert (Owen Wilson), a math teacher who attends her concert. But as they try to keep up appearances as a couple, do Kat and Charlie have more in common than they first thought? I really liked this film! I knew I'd probably enjoy it, but I had no idea how much. From the moment I saw the trailer, I thought the premise of the movie was a bit silly. And it is. But the idea is so silly that it actually works. After you get over the initial unrealistic nature of this marriage, it doesn't feel that weird. The characters, not only Kat and Charlie but also the supporting characters, are adorable, and so fun to watc

Where the Crawdads Sing | Film Review

I went to see this on a whim. I knew nothing about it, haven't read the book, and wasn't really sure what the general public opinion of it was. I went in completely blind. Abandoned as a child, Kya (Daisy Edgar-Jones), isolated and alone, raised herself in the marshlands. As she grows up, she meets two men who open her up to the outside world. But when one of those men die in mysterious circumstances, Kya becomes the main suspect. I didn't really like this film. The premise is an interesting one, particularly the idea of Kya having to raise herself and how this impacted her life. Kya is a really interesting character. The film does a good job of showing exactly who she is - smart, curious, and interested in the world around her. This is particularly important because we see Kya in a way that the rest of the town doesn't. We are automatically on her side. There are also some really great side characters, and it is really important to see the way that Kya interacts with

The Gray Man | Film Review

This film came out on Netflix a while ago and was really highly anticipated. Although I didn't love the premise, I'm a fan of the actors involved, so I wanted to see it. When CIA spy Six (Ryan Gosling) discovers agency secrets and goes on the run, he is hunted by rogue operative Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans). As I said, I didn't love the premise, so it wasn't really a surprise to me that I didn't like the film. For a start, the gratuitous violence gets a bit boring after a while. Fight scenes really make an action film, and fighting for the sake of fighting, which doesn't move the plot forward, just feels like a waste of time. The film has moments of humour, but these lines and quips never feel that funny - especially because the majority of them are used in the film's trailer. I never cared about, or felt invested in, any of the characters. Six was the only character who had anything interesting about him, but even then I didn't care about him as much as
