Chemical Hearts | Film Review

Image
Hey Guys x I knew practically nothing about this film before watching it, other than the fact that it was an Amazon Prime Video original, and it was a romance. But because it looked interesting, I decided to see what it was about. Two high school students meet and fall in love, but one of them is hiding a secret that could end their relationship before it even begins. I wasn't particularly enjoying this film as I was watching it, but it took me until the end to be able to actually pinpoint the reasons that I didn't like it. At the start, it feels like the same generic coming-of-age story that we've seen 100 times, but this wasn't what I disliked. The only thing wrong with this, for me, is that the film didn't give us enough. It took a little while for us to know these characters. My problem kicked in with the character of Henry (Austin Abrams), our main male character. The film tries to portray Henry as a nice, sweet, sympathetic character that we should fall in lov

The Trial of the Chicago 7 | Film Review

Image
Hey Guys x I knew nothing about this film, and had absolutely no desire to see it, until I saw the trailer on Netflix. I can't remember if I've ever seen a trailer that's made me feel the way that this one has. It captivated me, it gave me goosebumps, I was completely gripped, and it was only two minutes long! From that, I knew I had to see the film.   In 1969, 8 men are on trial for a variety of crimes sparked by, what was supposed to be, a peaceful protest of the Vietnam war. The trial captivates the nation, highlighting lies, injustice and the terrifying consequences of trying to start a revolution. There are no words to describe how much I loved this film. For a start, you wouldn't expect a film set almost entirely in a court room to be filled with so much character development, or so much tension. This film is written so well, and the dialogue is so powerful, that words are all that's needed to completely change the atmosphere of the room. In some places it

Ordinary Love | Film Review

Image
Hey Guys x I can't remember when I first heard about this film, but it had been on my radar for a while because I loved the premise. So when it came out on the Sky Premiere channels, I couldn't wait to watch it.  Joan (Leslie Manville) and Tom (Liam Neeson) are comfortable. They have been married for years and know each other better than anyone else. But when Joan is diagnosed with breast cancer, everything changes. Can this couple figure out the new dynamics of their relationship, whilst going through the trials of Joan's cancer treatment? This film does exactly what it says on the tin. It is exactly what you'd expect, so you already know whether you'll like it or not. I did. One of the reasons that this film worked was because of the chemistry between our main actors. They work really well together, and are really believable as a couple. The film gave a lot of detail when it comes to being tested and treated for breast cancer. Not only was this interesting, but it

Can You Keep A Secret? | Film Review

Image
Hey Guys x This film is an adaptation of a novel by Sophie Kinsella. While I have been a fan of hers for a while, this is one of her only novels that I never read. I've owned it for a while, but it never appealed to me. However, after seeing that this movie was on Netflix, I thought I'd give the movie a chance, and then see if that changed my mind about reading the book. Emma Corrigan (Alexandra Daddario) is on a plane that she thinks is about to crash. Because of this, she ends up spilling her deepest, darkest secrets to the stranger sitting next to her. However, when she returns to work, she finds out that the stranger is actually Jack Harper (Tyler Hoechlin), the CEO of her company. And he knows all of her secrets... Despite having a few problems with this film, I really enjoyed it. Starting with my problems, the main character (Emma) is too over-the-top. This makes everything she says sound unrealistic and ruins the entire first scene when she exposes her secrets. She'

Zombieland: Double Tap | Film Review

Image
Hey Guys x I saw the first Zombieland film about a year and a half ago, and I absolutely loved it, so I definitely wanted to see this one. When it came out on the Sky Premiere channel, I watched it as soon as I got the chance. Ten years since we were first introduced to Zombieland, we re-join Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), Tallahasse (Woody Harrelson), Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) as they continue to face off against Zombies. But as Zombies become more advanced, and a member of the group goes missing, can they follow the rules and save their team before it's too late? I enjoyed this film a lot. It's really inventive and original from before the first minute. One of the reasons for this (other than the very opening scene) is the voice-over. It is something that is maintained from the first film, and is done just as well the second time around. It has the right amount of gore - it's realistic without being vomit-inducing. My favourite thing this time

Late Night | Film Review

Image
Hey Guys x I had little interest in seeing this film when it came out in the cinema, because it just didn't seem like it would be my kind of thing, and it was only released in a few cinemas, if I remember rightly. But when it came out on Amazon Prime Video, I looked into it a bit more and thought that it might be interesting. Late-Night talk show host Katherine Newbury (Emma Thompson) decides to hire a female writer when her views begin to decline. But will hiring naturally talented novice Molly Patel (Mindy Kaling) save Katherine's show from cancellation?  I liked this film more than I thought I would, but I didn't love it. From the start, everything is thrown at the audience and it all feels a bit over the top. Everything that happens, happens at 100%, and not necessarily in a good way. For example. at the start, every character is a dramatic caricature that makes them all unlikeable.  One thing that struck me was how interesting it is as a viewer to learn about differe
