August Favourites | 2016

Hey Guys x I'm running out of ways to introduce my favourites! Comment below some things that you've been enjoying this month! Favourite Movie: The Adjustment Bureau I love this film so much! It's about a couple who try to be together when fate is truly against them, it's a love story with a twist. I loved this because I felt like the main couple (Matt Damon and Emily Blunt) were truly in love, and I could picture their characters together forever. But also, I loved it because I felt like it's underrated as romance, and more about the action, but for me, the romance is amazing and easily the best aspect of the film. Favourite TV Show: Britannia High OK, so if you're not from the UK, you probably won't have heard of this. If you are from the UK, you might still not know what this is. Britannia High is like the UK version of glee. It ran for 1 season (aka 9 episodes) in 2008 and 11 year old me completely fell in love with it! Thankfully, 16 year

Book Review #48: This Modern Love by Will Darbyshire

Image
Hey Guys x Aside from the Fletchers, I've been steering clear of YouTuber books lately - mainly because none have really been appealing to me. However, when I heard about this book, I pre-ordered it immediately because it was right up my alley and just the kind of thing that I'd love to read. This book is a collection of letters (and emails, pictures and words). Secret admirer letters, not-so-secret admirer letters, love letters and break-up letters. Through these, Will was trying to explore love in the modern era, with the addition of technology and social media. People from all over the world, of all ages, sent in their letters, pictures and words to help determine the messy business of relationships and what makes them worth it. I loved this book! I mean, the idea is so simple, but I've never read anything like it before! As someone who is a huge lover of romance, of course I'd love a book about a collection of letters, and I found that wheth

Naming Characters | Like A Writer

Image
Hey Guys x Welcome to 'Like A Writer' - I haven't done one of these in a while, but basically this series is just different pieces of advice and my own opinions about writing a novel. Today, I want to talk about naming characters - particularly the characters whose names are going to be mentioned a lot. Now, for me, my favourite thing about writing anything fiction based, is creating my own characters. And the best part about creating characters, I think, it giving them names. Lots of people do this differently - Author Giovanna Fletcher said that she sometimes takes the names of friends and changes them slightly. Carrie Hope Fletcher gave her characters in her debut novel 'On The Other Side' surnames relating to seasons - everyone does things differently. For me, I spend days before even planning anything searching baby naming websites. Normally I have a small idea about the character, maybe one or two details, and choose a name based on this - however

Craving Love

Image
Hey Guys x Who doesn't want to be loved? I feel like, whether this is love from friends, family members, or a significant other, everyone wants and needs to have some sort of love in their lives. And that's completely normal - as Jojo said in the film 'Aquamarine', love is 'the closest thing we have to magic'. But what's weird to me is that for a lot of people, me included, the love of a significant other is more important than love from anyone else. As someone who's never been in love, the longer it gets, the more I crave it. The more I crave the first kiss with someone you really like, the butterflies in the stomach feeling, the introducing someone as your boy/girlfriend, the moving in with someone and building a life with someone and thinking about marriage and beyond. I want that so much! Or, I did. I've spent a lot of time imagining these scenarios in different ways with different people (and probably turning the

Childhood Nostalgia!

Image
Hey Guys x So, there are a lot of things that I miss about my childhood. So when I was contacted by Invaluable and asked to write a post about some of these items, I jumped at the chance! ' Invaluable ' have lots and lots of collectibles and things that will really make you miss your childhood, so after you read this post, definitely check out their website! But for now, here are some things that I miss from my childhood! Videos I really miss videos! I know a lot of people are all about Netflix and watching stuff on the internet. but I will never get tired of having physical copies of things! I mean, even now I collect DVDs. But for me, videos are something that will instantly remind me of being a child, of watching Rugrats of the Simpsons as much as I wanted! Old Computers Does anyone else remember these computers? The ones that needed a keyboard and mouse to be attached and that you definitely couldn't take anywhere with you? I miss this! Of c

Safari Park Adventures!

Image
Hey Guys x On Thursday, I went to Woburn Abbey Safari Park and it was a really good day! Of course I took my camera so that I could take pictures of all the animals. And then I realised that this post would literally just be pictures of animals - if that's not your kind of thing it's fine, it wouldn't be my kind of thing either! And I have to say, as good a day as it was, it made me realise that I'm not that keen on animals at all! However, I still took pictures, so take a look! Definitely go to Woburn if you haven't, it's a great Safari Park! Thank you for reading. Comment below your favourite animal! Keep Smiling - Lou xx

Book Review #47: Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon

Image
Hey Guys x This book was a part of Zoella's book club, so when it came up in my amazon recommendations, I decided on a whim to just buy it, and I am so glad I did! The book is about a girl called Maddy, who is allergic to the world. When I told my sister about the book, I had to explain what this meant, so I'll explain it here too. She's not scared of the world, she's literally allergic. If she leaves her house, she'll get sick and maybe even die, so she has to live without ever experiencing the outside world. Enter Olly, the cute boy next door who Maddy has no choice but to stay away from. However, when Olly finds a way to communicate, Maddy has to decide whether or not to risk everything for love, and by everything, she really means everything. I really enjoyed this book, I thought it was so interesting. It wasn't just written in the form of a book, but in notes, instant messages, drawings, I loved it! The character of Maddy is such a unique characte

Being Taken For Granted

Image
Hey Guys x I've had this post as a note in my phone for a while, and I figured today I'd just sit down and write it. In an episode of Orange is the New Black, (no spoilers!) someone says to someone else: 'You can't spend you life holding the door open, and being angry when people don't thank you - no one asked you to hold the door.' And this really resonated with me because I think that this is something that a lot of people, me included, do. I mean, how many of us get someone something really great for their birthday, and quietly hope that the same kind of care is taken on our own special days? Now, imagine if you did that, but for your birthday, the other person didn't get you anything. That would probably make you upset, and so it should! But then you have to think about why you got them the great present in the first place. Did you just genuinely want to get them something amazing? Or did you want to get them something amazin

5 Films You Need To Watch | 3

Image
Hey Guys x I was reading over my old posts and realised that I haven't done a '5 things you need to...' post since January! That's crazy! So I thought I'd do another one about movies. In particular, these are all movies that either mean something to me, made me feel something, or are a really good representation of their genre. Please recommend me some films to watch in the comments, I love getting your thoughts and opinions! The Boy I love this film! If you can't already tell, it's a horror film. However, I put it in this list mainly because it isn't really scary - I've made so many people who hate horror watch this film and they've all said that they enjoyed it, but weren't majorly scared by it. I think I've spoken about it before, but it's about a woman who takes up a job babysitting a doll. Now, doll horror films are some of my favourites and this one is no exception, especially because of the twist at the end! Definite

The Uber Rant!

Image
Hey Guys x It's been a good while since I've done a rant! Since I have begun using Uber, there are some things that really annoy me, that I thought I'd rant about. But before starting, I have to say, this is all light-hearted. I'm so grateful to Uber for being one of the cheapest taxi services ever, and for getting me from A-B and back when public transport just isn't for me. Having said that, let's get into the rant! Creepy Pictures For anyone who doesn't use Uber, when you call your car, they send you a the car license plate, the car make, and the name and picture of the driver. I think this is great and just adds an element of safety that really is needed. However, some of the pictures of these drivers are just... kind of creepy. They never look the same as they look in real life anyway, so why not spend a bit of time getting a nice picture? Like, it always sets me a bit on edge when I get the picture back and the driver looks a bit

Book Review #46: On The Other Side by Carrie Hope Fletcher

Image
Hey Guys x One thing I have to make clear before writing this is that, I'm reviewing this book not as a fan of Carrie Hope Fletcher, but as a fan of books and romance. Now, I loved this book, for so many reasons! One of the main reasons for my love of this story is that, it holds the type of magical love that you never thought could happen in real life. It's not even movie love or fiction love - it's magic. That's the only way to describe it. Evie Snow has died. However, when she gets to her own personal branch of heaven, she realises that the door won't open. This is because Evie is still holding onto things from the world, secrets to be more exact. Three secrets that are weighing down her soul and making it impossible for her to live her eternal bliss. So, with the help of an old friend and some dear memories, Evie must enter the world once again, to unburden her heart of these secrets. But will she be willing to let these secrets go? And if she does, wi
