Once Upon A Holiday | Blogmas Day 11
Hey Guys x
It's Blogmas day 11!
This is another Christmas movie that comes from Netflix, but from the poster it's actually a Hallmark movie, which makes a lot of sense!
A princess (Briana Evigan) decides to shirk her royal Christmas duties in favour of being shown the 'real' New York by a handsome stranger (Paul Campbell).
I'm a sucker for movies like this, so I went in expecting to like it and I certainly wasn't disappointed!
For a start, I liked the fact that the term 'princess' was treated as a job description rather than an enviable position in society.
The protagonists have such immediate chemistry that none of their backstories even matter prior to their meeting, because all you care about is the scenes that they have together.
One of my favourite things about the movie was that, usually in these Christmas movies the love interest is either the typical businessman, or he literally looks like a model. In this movie, the love interest is just a normal average guy who is still attractive, and the couple really suited each other.
This film also didn't have the usual conflict between the couple that rom-coms love to push, and again, I think this is down to the love interest. He isn't the usual rom-com guy. Even when conflict does occur, he deals with it in such a way that makes the character seem like an actual real person.
Together, this is a (potential) couple that are equals. They are both likeable, and they both know what they want from life.
Overall, this is a predictable film that you'll love more as an average rom-com than as a Christmas movie.
4/10 - Originality
5/10 - Christmas Spirit
4/10 - Christmas Music
It's 14 days until Christmas!
Come back tomorrow for Blogmas day 12!
