The Christmas Swap | Blogmas Day 22
Hey Guys x
It's Blogmas day 22!
On the Sky Premiere channels, this film is called 'The Christmas Swap, so that's what I've called it even though it's generally called 'A Christmas Switch'. But to be honest, it doesn't matter what I've called it because I doubt anyone's actually gonna want to watch it.
When a singer and a record executive accidentally switch places (Freaky Friday style), the two women race to switch back before Christmas. However, over the Christmas season they learn more about themselves than they ever thought possible.
As you can tell, this isn't a new or original story, though it is somewhat modernised if you're looking at it from a Freaky Friday angle.
It doesn't start in the most entertaining way, and it takes a long time to get interesting - if it even does at all.
Neither of these characters are interesting in any way. There's never a point where you can think 'I really care about what happens to these two.'
Now, of course not every Christmas movie has to have this, but the film really felt lacking because it didn't, and that's a romantic story-line. Both of these women were already married in the film and their husbands were both really non-existent. I think a love interest or two would have given the audience something to hold onto.
The film is mainly about Christmas spirit, rather than a Christmas romance, but the problem with this is that even the Christmas spirit part falls flat.
But the main thing that I didn't like about this film was that, of the two women, one of them was portrayed as really flawed, and the other was near-perfect. And because of this, the 'perfect' character's life and personality hardly changed from the beginning of the film to the end. What was the point?
Overall, I wouldn't call this movie a waste of time, but you probably won't get much out of it.
2/10 - Originality
4/10 - Christmas Spirit
5/10 - Christmas Music
It's 3 days until Christmas!
Come back tomorrow for Blogmas day 23!
