Hey Guys x

Happy Blogmas day 6!

I gave this film a mini review in last year's Blogmas, but I liked it so much that I thought it deserved a full review this year. I think it's probably one of my favourite Netflix Christmas movies, if not my absolute favourite.

Ellen Langford (Eliza Taylor) is about to inherit her father's business. But before she does, he gives her a mission - to deliver a box of Christmas cards to his former business partner, in his hometown of Snow Falls. But when her trip is extended, Ellen finds herself falling in love with the town of Snow Falls... and with one of its residents.

As I mentioned, I love this movie.

For a start, Ellen Langford is portrayed as a rude, entitled, spoiled girl, but even with all of that, she's a great main character because she's so endearing. She's a character that you root for even though you can't really relate to her extravagant lifestyle.

The film takes the 'spoiled rich girl' cliche way too far. It's fair enough that she has money, but it's still entirely possible that she could have been born into money and still know how to tidy a room, or separate eggs. In some aspects, she was extremely capable, and in others, she couldn't work out how to do the easiest thing.

An annoying thing about films like this is that they always give the protagonist a significant other that is completely ignored until two thirds through the film when there suddenly needs to be a conflict. But that was particularly annoying in this film because there was a really good source of conflict all on it's own, without the addition of her fiance who she was clearly never going to end up with.

There was a lot of chemistry between the protagonists. Both Eliza Taylor and Jake Lacy (Jake Collins) are great in these roles. I've been a fan of both of them for years (Eliza from back when she was in 'The Sleepover Club' in 2003/4 and Jake from 'The Office' in 2012/13), so seeing them together was really nice, and they didn't disappoint!

It's rare to get a movie like this where both of the main protagonists are so fleshed out. Normally one of them (usually the guy) is a two-dimensional character that is used for decoration, but with this film you really get to know both of these characters.

And then there's the conflict. It was extremely predictable from the first 15 minutes of the movie what the ultimate conflict would be, but unlike a lot of Christmas movies, the conflict actually moves the plot forward and adds to the story, which is rare.

Overall, I love this movie and definitely recommend it. If nothing else, it's undeniably Christmassy, so it'll definitely get you in the Christmas spirit.

5/10 - Originality
8/10 - Christmas Spirit
6.5/10 - Christmas Music

It's 19 days until Christmas!

Come back tomorrow for Blogmas day 7!
