Hey Guys x

It's Blogmas day 17!

I have no idea if this is supposed to be in the original 'Cinderella Story' franchise, but I loved the original, and haven't seen any of the others aside from this one. But as it's a Christmas film, and it's on Netflix, I decided to see if it was any good.

Kat (Laura Marano) is a singer... or she wants to be. Currently she works as an elf, which allows her to live out her dreams until she can actually become who she wants to be. But with her stepmother and step-sisters standing in her way, this seems impossible. Until, that is, she meets Dominic Wintergarden (Gregg Sulkin).

I liked this film more than I thought I would, given that it follows the standard 'Cinderella' story-line that's been done since the dawn of time.

Now I will say that, from the opening scene, you do not feel like this will be a good movie. It's just embarrassing for everyone involved.

And on top of that, 'A Cinderella Story' did not need to be made again, no matter what twist was put on it.

However, it is actually quite an entertaining movie. The twist that they put on it is a good one in the sense that it really does update the story and make it more modern.

If you are a fan of the story of 'Cinderella' in general, then any variation of that would probably be a good movie for you, and that includes this one.

The only problem that I found with modernising this story is that, by keeping the core aspects the same, the stepmother/sisters kind of become unrealistic. Not that horrible people don't exist, but they go to an extent that just feels a bit much. Particularly Kat's reaction towards them, which isn't as hateful as you'd think it would be.

But both of the protagonists are really well-written and fleshed out. There was also a lot of chemistry between them, and without them, the film would have been bad.

Overall, a cute story with a satisfying (if wholly predictable) ending. If you like cliche rom-coms, specifically in the form of Cinderella movies, then this is for you!

3/10 - Originality
5/10 - Christmas Spirit
7/10 - Christmas Music

It's 8 days until Christmas!

Come back tomorrow for Blogmas day 18!
