My Top 15 Horror Films

I am a great lover of horror films, they are my favourite type of films to watch and there are some that I could literally watch over and over again! This was originally going to be one of my usual 'top 10' posts, but I kept remembering more movies and I couldn't narrow them down. Here are my top 15:

15) I Know What You Did Last Summer

I haven't seen this film in a long time, but every time I watch it, I fall in love with it again. It is about a group of teenagers (Pictured above) have a road accident and end up running over a man in the road. They decide to throw his body into a river and forget that it ever happened. However, someone saw what they did, and they're going to make sure that the teenagers know it. It had the right amount of jump-moments while allowing me to sleep peacefully at night.

14) The Ring

Another film that I haven't seen in a long time. The Ring is about a woman who watches a video that claims that after seven days, anyone watching will die. She is a journalist and tries to discover the background of the film, finding out that her son has also watched the film. She has to find out how to solve the problem before it's too late. I probably didn't explain it well, be sure to watch the trailer!

13) Child's Play

When I first saw this, the sight of dolls used to completely scare me. This film is about a boy who receives a doll, called Chucky, not knowing that inside his doll is the spirit of a murderer. This film is completely creepy because it makes you think that this could be happening inside one of your dolls!

12) Poltergeist

Spoofs of this film have been done to death, but a lot of people have not actually seen the original film. It is about a family who are being haunted by a ghost, including the iconic television scene with the baby of the family. This is not a really scary film, so I would definitely advise people to watch it, even if you don't really like horror films!

11) Psycho

I know there has been a re-make of this film, staring Vince Vaughn, but I am strictly talking about the original 1960 version. And yes, this is a black and white film. It is about a woman who steals money from her boss, so to not get caught, she runs away and goes to a motel, meeting Norman Bates, the owner of the motel. I don't want to give anything away, but there is also a series on television that is a prequel to this film, called 'The Bates Motel', so be sure to check that out!

10) Jeepers Creepers

This film features one of my favourite actors of all time, Justin Long, which makes me automatically love it! It is about a brother and sister who are making the long journey home from university. On their way, they are almost bumped into by a man in a big truck. They later spot this man again, and find out more than they ever intended to about him, especially when he starts to look for them! Prepare for jumps!

9) Scream

Not only do I love this film, but I love the whole franchise (4 films). It stars Courtney Cox, aka Monica from F.R.I.E.N.D.S and is about a group of school students who are terrorised by a figure in a mask. At the forefront of the group is Sidney Prescott whose mother died a year prior to the attacks. It seems as if everything happening is centred around her. This is a must see franchise for any horror fan!

8) Saw

The first real 'gore' alert of this countdown. The SAW franchise is about a man, who calls himself jigsaw, who puts people into situations in which they have to injure themselves to get out of them, including cutting off limbs. This film is not really 'scary', but the gore is crazy!

7) Drag Me To Hell

I promise, this film is not as demonic as the name suggests! It features a second appearance from Justin Long, who, as I said before, I completely love! It is about a woman called Christine who, while at work, denies an elderly woman the chance to get a second extension on her home. This causes the elderly woman to curse Christine, with a curse that is said to drag her to hell at the end of three days. I would definitely say that this film is scary. Not scary enough to give you nightmares, but scary enough to make you look behind you while watching it. If you just want to try it out, the whole movie is currently on Youtube, so the link will be below.

6) Orphan

So far on my countdown, this film is definitely the scariest! It is about a 'normal' family. When the mother has a miscarriage, she decides that, to have another child (She already has two) she should adopt. With her husband, they go to an orphanage and find Esther, a girl that they both immediately fell in love with. However, as things begin to happening, the family begin to have mixed feelings about who Esther really is. If you are a horror fan, like me, this film is a definite must see!

5) Insidious Chapter 2

This film features Patrick Wilson, who is my favourite Horror Movie actor of all time. I have seen the first insidious, but I 100% think that the second film is much better. Although, you have the watch the first film to understand the second. The first film is about a family, in which the youngest son, Dalton,  has fallen ill, and no one knows what's wrong. It's only when the couple tell the husband's mother about the seemingly paranormal activity that has been plaguing them, does the family find out what's wrong, and it started with the husband. The second film carries on directly from the end of the first, discovering more about what plagued the husband in his past, and trying to find out what, if anything, is wrong, before it's too late.

4) Urban Legend

This is the most underrated film in this countdown. It is not a film that is shown or talked about a lot, which surprises me as it is quite a scary film with a really good plot. It is about a group of students who are being taunted/attacked by someone who is choreographing murders based on the world's most common urban legends. The best thing about the film is that, you can have fun trying to guess who the killer is!

3) Final Destination

This was the first horror franchise that I ever watched, and I completely loved it. I love all 5 of the movies so I will put the link for all five of the trailers below. The franchise is about a group of people (A different group per film) who are supposed to have died in a tragic accident, however, one person in each group had a vision of what would happen, and managed to save some people from death. However, with death's plan destroyed, the group begin to discover what death's plan really was.

2) Paranormal Activity 4

Out of the 5 Paranormal Activity films, I enjoyed 1, 3 and 4, with 4 being my favourite. I've seen all of them, last week watching the most recent movie, 'The Marked Ones'. The franchise begins with Katie Featherson, who has had experiences of paranormal activity through her childhood, which is still with her into her adulthood. However, the 4th film doesn't feature as much of Katie as the first three. It is about the family of Alex. Her mother decides that they will take in the little boy from across the street. Little do they know that allowing Robbie into their lives will open up their homes to the most extreme paranormal activities that the franchise has ever seen!

1) The Conjuring

If you're not a fan of horror, you may not want to see this film, as I am a huge fan and it really scared me! It features Patrick Wilson, mentioned before as my favourite horror actor, as well as Vera Farmiga (the mother in orphan) and Mackenzie Foy (Renesmee in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn). It is about a married couple with 5 daughters who move houses due to the father's new job. As they move, they find a boarded-up basement and an old closet that hold supernatural secrets. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga play a couple who help the family through their trouble, as they have dealt with things like this time and time again. But this time is different, and Patrick and Vera can't help but get sucked into the families paranormal problems. Apparently based on a true story, I have seen nothing scarier than this film!
