2001: A Space Odyssey | 100 Movies Bucket List

Next up was 2001: A Space Odyssey!

This was a first-time watch that I had heard about for years. I definitely wasn't surprised to find it on this classics list!

I had never been interested in seeing it, and while I thought that I would probably end up watching it one day, it being on the List made me watch it a lot quicker than I otherwise would have.

The reason that I wasn't interested in this movie was a specific one. I watch a lot of movies in a lot of genres, but there are a few genres that I really don't enjoy (though even then, there are some films within those genres that I still end up liking).

But one of the genres that I haven't found love for is specifically movies about (or set in) space.

I have no problem with hearing about space in real life, or watching highly fantastical space-ish movies like Star Trek, but in terms of moves rooted in reality, set in space, I haven't found any that I like.

And I do keep trying with them. Space movies tend to be highly revered, so when new ones come out that get great reviews I watch them, hoping that I'll find one I love. So far I haven't.

I don't know what it is about them specifically, I just think the setting doesn't really entice me. And because when a film is set in space, it's usually about space. So if I'm not interested in the topic then I'm not always interested in the film.

And this movie was no exception. I really wanted to like it, but I just couldn't get into it.

That's not taking away from the amazing visuals, or the great acting. It just wasn't for me, and I knew going in that it probably wouldn't be.

  When Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) is confronted by the TVA, he has to work with Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) to save his world from an existential threat. I was so excited to see this movie. I'm a huge fan of the Deadpool movies, the X-Men movies and the Wolverine solo movies, so the idea of these characters teaming up felt perfect to me. The Instigators | Film Review

When a heist goes wrong, unlikely partners Rory (Matt Damon) and Cobby (Casey Affleck) have to team up to escape the police and take the money they need. I was looking forward to seeing this film so much - to the point where I was counting down the days until it came out! I love the actors involved, the plot looked interesting, and it was promised to be quite funny so I was here for it! Thankfully I loved the movie. I've seen it three times since it first came out and I've loved it more each time. I was really glad that it got straight into the action. In under 10 minutes, we know the characters and what the heist is, and we can sit back and enjoy without any unnecessary backstory. The fun thing about the movie is that it plays like a reverse heist - usually in a heist movie the heist takes place at the end of the film, goes well and everyone walks away with everything they wanted. In this one, the heist takes place at the beginning, everything goes wrong and no one really know

The Lion King | 100 Movies Bucket List

  Next up for the Bucket List was another animated re-watch! This is one of the core Disney movies from my childhood, so I've probably seen this upwards of 50 times. I've always liked the film, so liking it again this time around isn't exactly news. The one thing that struck me this time around, though, was how amazing the soundtrack was! Every single song is iconic and honestly, as good as the story itself is, I truly believe the reason the film is as highly regarded as it is, is because of the amazing soundtrack. That was definitely my favourite thing about it! As far as animated Disney classics go, there are definitely some that I probably would have liked to see on the bucket list more than this one, but this is definitely a classic and absolutely deserves its place!

Baahubali | 100 Movies Bucket List

  Next up for the Bucket List was a first-time watch. This was one I'd never heard of before seeing it on the list, and while it wasn't one I was particularly looking forward to, it wasn't one I was opposed to watching either. But even with neutral feelings, I was really pleasantly surprised by the film. I had such a good time with it! For a start, the story was a really interesting one. I got into it right away and became invested in the characters almost immediately. One of the reasons I became invested in the characters was because they were played so well. The actors in the film were all amazing and really made me feel connected to the characters they played. I loved that it was so grounded in reality while also being a fantastical epic.  Everything feels real and authentic, and while you're watching the movie, you're completely living in this world with the characters. Where Rainbows End vs. Love, Rosie | Film and Book Review

I've just finished reading 'Where Rainbows End' by Cecelia Ahern, and immediately had to watch the movie version, 'Love, Rosie'. The reason that I've decided to talk about them together, as opposed to only reviewing the book, is mainly because I didn't have enough to say about the book on its own to justify reviewing it. Alex (Sam Claflin) and Rosie (Lily Collins) have been best friends since childhood. But when they turn 18 and their paths start to diverge, they realise how much they need each other. I love the idea of this story. Whether in book or movie form, the idea of childhood best friends realising that they were always meant for each other is something that I'm really into. The book version of this story is written entirely of notes, emails, letters, instant messages and any other type of written media, and I loved this.
