Book Review #41: Girl Online On Tour

Hey Guys x

Sorry I didn't post yesterday, I just had a really bad day!

Anyway, I used my bad day to finally finish Zoe Sugg's latest novel, Girl Online On Tour. I've written a post about YouTuber books, so it's a bit ironic that this is the first book I'm reviewing in 2016!

I reviewed the first Girl Online book, which you can see here. You might want to read that first because this book follows on from the first one.

I just noticed that my first book reviews of both 2015 and 2016 have been Zoe's books.

Anyway, let me get on with the review. I'm assuming that you know about Girl Online so, if you don't, this review might contain spoilers.

Penny is back! And this time, everything's different. Penny's about to go on tour with Noah. Yes, following Brooklyn Boy around Europe seems like the best thing in the world! However, Penny soon finds that tour life isn't everything she thought it would be. She's alone, worried, and has no one to turn to. Not to mention she's blogging in secret because she's scared about the world judging her. So when she gets blackmailed, and both her relationship with Noah and her friendship with Elliott hang in the balance, Penny has to decide... was going on tour worth it?

I have to say, I enjoyed this book a lot more than the first one. From a writer's perspective, I thought it was really well written and it seemed like a lot more time and effort had been put into it, which really made me enjoy it more.

I also enjoyed the plot itself - I think it was such a great way to continue Penny's story, and it had some really interesting aspects that I really liked, including the ending. I found it really realistic.

There were a few characters added this time around, and my favourite is probably Leah Brown. I don't want to give any spoilers but she was completely different to what I thought she'd be like, and the world certainly needs more Leah Brown's!

What was good?
I really liked the character development from the first novel to this one. All of the characters grew up, and it was nice to see the subtle changes. But I also really liked the sense of realism in the characters. I mean, in some scenes, nothing much happens, and yet, you can imagine being the person in that situation. I love the character of Penny just like I did the first time around, but now she seems even more realistic than before, and that makes the story that much more intriguing.

What was bad?
The only thing I didn't like, which is just my personal preference, is that, it didn't really deal with issues that I expected it to. For example, Penny didn't really talk about the way that the panic attacks affected her, and, for someone who has anxiety, she didn't seem as homesick as I expected her to. The only person she spoke at length about missing was Elliott. But again, that's just my personal opinion.

Overall
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone between the ages of 10 and 17 (which I still feel like I am!), especially if you've already read the first book! It's a really fun read and I really enjoyed it! Zoe did really well.

Thank you for reading.
