2024 Favourites!

This post feels like it comes around quicker and quicker every year and I love writing it - especially because I've loved so many things this year.

So here are my 2024 Favourites!

Favourite Film (1): Deadpool and Wolverine

I reviewed this film HERE. At the beginning of the year, I never expected that this would be my favourite film. I have enjoyed the Deadpool movies and the X-Men movies, but I've never had a cinema experience as fun as this one. And thankfully the film is still just as good watching from home. I've now seen it 3 or 4 times since it was released on Disney+ and I love it more and more each time. Definitely my film of the year!

Favourite Film (2): Blink Twice

I reviewed this one HERE and this was probably the biggest surprise, in that I didn't really like it at the beginning and by the end I was completely in love with it. And after watching it again and completely understanding why everything happens the way it does, I think this is a really fantastic film and a great directorial debut.

Favourite Film (3): All of Us Strangers

I reviewed this one HERE. When I was looking back on the films I've watched this year this is one that I'd forgotten about. But it absolutely had to be on this list because of how beautiful it was and how much of an impact it had on me. If you watch any film on this list, make it this one.

Favourite Film (4): Oddity

I reviewed this HERE and I'm so glad I get to add a horror movie to this list. This was definitely the best horror movie I've seen this year, mainly because it was so unexpectedly good. I had no idea what it would be like and I was so pleasantly surprised! If you're a horror fan, check this one out!

Favourite Film (5): Sting

I reviewed this one HERE, and this is a bit of a silly favourite in comparison to the others. This isn't the best film I've seen this year by any means, but I had such a good time with it that I had to put it here. Plus it might be the one on this list I've rewatched the most, so it deserved to be included!

Favourite TV Show (1): Insecure

I had been meaning to watch this show for ages and I finally got around to it this year. I really loved what the show as a whole did. I loved the way the characters developed, I loved that we got to grow with them, and I loved that we could always root for the characters even if we didn't agree with their actions. It explores so many important themes and ideas, and is overall a really great show.

Favourite TV Show (2): Chucky

I'm so upset that this show has been cancelled. I don't watch a lot of horror TV shows but this really makes me want to start because it's such a good show! Watch this if you're a horror fan!

Favourite TV Show (3): Baby Reindeer

I don't think it's a surprise that this show is on the list considering how it blew up and is still getting nominated for awards. I didn't know what to expect when I first started watching it but I didn't expect to see something so powerful and heart-breaking and intense. It truly is a captivating story and I'm so glad it's getting the recognition it deserves.

Favourite TV Show (4): Fleabag

I said in an older Favourites post that Season 2 episode 1 of this show may be the best episode of television I've ever seen and I still completely stand by that. I haven't had the chance to rewatch the show entirely but I have watched that episode so many times and I love every single thing about it.

Favourite Song (1): Mean Girls Soundtrack

My most listened to song this year was 'Apex Predator' from this soundtrack, and there were many other songs from Mean Girls that were featured in my most played playlist, so this had to be first on the list. I absolutely love so many of these songs, and after seeing the show live in the West End, I fell in love with them even more.

Favourite Song (2): Unknown Stuntman

I have no idea why I love this song so much, but from the moment I heard it while watching 'The Fall Guy', I haven't stopped listening to it on repeat. It's such a good song!

Favourite Song (3): Don't

This is another song I heard from a movie (I think it was called 'One True Loves'), and while the film didn't stay with me at all, this song certainly did!

Favourite Song (4): Vampire

It's really rare for me to have a song on this list that I didn't hear in a movie, because I don't really listen to music that much otherwise. So I have no idea where I first heard this song, and I know I'm extremely late to the party, but I am so in love with it!

Favourite Actor (1): Andrew Scott

I've watched so many movies and shows starring Andrew Scott this year, he basically took up the first few months of my year so he had to be in the first slot. I've already mentioned Fleabag and All of Us Strangers, but those are just two of many projects that I've loved of his and I'm really excited to see the four films he has coming out in 2025!

Favourite Actor (2): Christian Bale

Christian Bale is another actor that I've seen a lot of this year, but he's mainly here because I'm annoyed that it took me so long to finally watch the Dark Knight trilogy. He was an amazing Batman, all of the films were incredible and Bale is definitely one of the best actors working today.

Favourite actor (3): Tom Hardy

And on to another of the best actors working today, Tom Hardy is one of my most recent favourites, particularly after seeing and loving the third Venom movie. But I've recently watched and loved so many of his movies, including The Bikeriders (review to come in the new year), Legend, Bronson, Lawless and The Dark Knight Rises, his filmography is insane!

Favourite Book: Clown in a Cornfield

Of all the books I read this year, this is the one that has stuck with me. I only gave it a 4/5 but the more I think about it, the more I think it was a 5 star for me. It's one that I think about all the time and I am so excited to read the sequels and rediscover the characters I fell in love with. Definitely my book of the year!

Other Favourites

Theatre

I've seen more theatre shows this year than I had previously ever seen and it has been so much fun. I always liked live music, but I've definitely found a new love. Mean Girls was definitely a favourite, as well as Les Mis which I had been the most excited for, and I can't wait to see more shows next year!

100 Movies Bucket List

I couldn't end the year without mentioning the Bucket List, which not only has allowed me to watch so many movies this year, exceeding my goal, but also for allowing me to write so many more posts than I ever have before. I'm doing another Bucket List challenge next year so there will be a lot of new (old) movies to write about!

And that's my 2024 favourites, and my second-to-last post of the year! One more to go until 2025!
