Blockers | Film Review
Hey Guys x
This came out a while ago, so I'm sorry that it's taken me such a long time to get around to reviewing it. But either way, here's my review!
The movie is about three girls who are high school seniors (in the UK, they would be in college about to go to university) and they've made a pact to lose their virginity on prom night. However, they each have a parent who is overprotective. When these three parents find out about their daughter's pact, they put a plan in motion to stop their children before they cross the finish line.
I absolutely loved this film.
I've seen a lot of coming-of-age films, and this one was definitely one of the most fun ones. The idea of losing your virginity is a big deal to the parents, but to the kids it just seems like a right of passage - something to do before they head off to college. But whether it's a big deal or not, the film isn't focused on whether or not this happens for them, which is what makes it fun.
And when I say fun, it's also funny. There were times when I was laughing out loud, mostly at the parents - John Cena and Leslie Mann together are an amazing duo and they're completely hilarious, but even moreso with the addition of Ike Barinholtz - the parents are more interesting and entertaining to watch than the kids, which is quite rare in a coming-of-age movie.
But let's not take away anything from the amazing actresses that play the three main girls, Kathryn Newton, Geraldine Viswanathan and Gideon Adlon. Each has a distinct personality and brings something completely different to the movie, and it honestly wouldn't have been nearly as great as it was without each and every one of them.
It has diversity, LGBT representation, hilarity at every turn, romance, drama, arguments... what else do you need? It has everything I wanted to see!
Overall, if you haven't seen this film, see it. Just watch it, so you can revel in the awesomeness that I am living in. And if you've already seen it, what did you think of it? Leave your response in the comments!
