The Wizard of Oz | 100 Movies Bucket List

The first movie of my 100 Movies Bucket List challenge was 'The Wizard of Oz', which I watched at midnight on 1st January.

I've seen this film so many times, so it felt like a safe one to start with. I knew that I'd like it, but I hadn't seen it that recently, so I could still get something out of it.

I had a really good time. I know the movie really well - I've been watching it since I was a kid and have always loved it.

And there's not much else to say about this one. It's an absolutely classic that everyone should see, and it was a great start to the challenge!

Bridget Jones ( Renée Zellweger)  is back, and navigating life as a single mother and widow when she unexpectedly finds herself getting back into the dating scene. I was looking forward to seeing this film. I've seen the previous Bridget Jones movies, and while I wouldn't say they're huge favourites of mine, they're all a fun watch, and the first two are really nostalgic, so I was interested to see where Bridget would end up in this one. Gladiator II | Film Review

  After a devastating loss, Hanno (Paul Mescal) uses his hidden past to battle the powerful emperors trying to conquer his home. I watched the first Gladiator film as part of last year's movie bucket list and I liked it. I didn't think it absolutely needed a sequel, but I was interested to see one nonetheless - even moreso after it got an Oscar nomination. I thought this film was fine, there were things I liked and didn't like almost in equal measure. I really liked the opening sequence, it was really engaging and took the audience straight back into the world of the first film. I also really liked the way this film connected to the first one. The visuals are stunning, particularly all of the scenery and set pieces.  From the offset, I cared about these new characters less than I cared about the first ones. King Kong (1933) | 100 Movies Bucket List

  Next up for the Bucket List was a re-watch. I watched this film for the first time a couple of years ago, mostly out of curiosity. I've seen the 2005 version multiple times, and have absolutely loved the current slate of Kong and Godzilla movies, so I wanted to see how it all began (and I love that a Godzilla film is on the bucket list too, though not the original). For the most part, taking into account the film was released in 1933, I think it holds up well. Yes, the visual effects are completely dated, but the story itself has been retold multiple times because it's something that could easily happen today - someone travelling to a mysterious island for posterity, or in today's world to post their pictures on social media. It really works. The acting is great, you really believe the characters are going through this experience and the actors all do a great job with their roles. Hey Guys x Like many of the other films that I've reviewed lately, this is also one that I found on Netflix. It's what my mum and I call a 'Channel 5 movie', which basically means that it's the thriller version of a 'Hallmark' movie. Generally good, but never going to be amazing. Either way, I was excited to watch this one, based on an interesting plot. A woman (Brittany Underwood), recently fired from her job, takes a babysitting gig to make a bit of money. However, when she hears a story on the news about the murder of a local babysitter, and weird things start happening in the house, she wonders if history is beginning to repeat itself. I really really enjoyed this movie, probably more than most people did, because for some reason it really appealed to my tastes. However, that obviously doesn't mean that it's a perfect movie at all. Where Rainbows End vs. Love, Rosie | Film and Book Review

I've just finished reading 'Where Rainbows End' by Cecelia Ahern, and immediately had to watch the movie version, 'Love, Rosie'. The reason that I've decided to talk about them together, as opposed to only reviewing the book, is mainly because I didn't have enough to say about the book on its own to justify reviewing it. Alex (Sam Claflin) and Rosie (Lily Collins) have been best friends since childhood. But when they turn 18 and their paths start to diverge, they realise how much they need each other. I love the idea of this story. Whether in book or movie form, the idea of childhood best friends realising that they were always meant for each other is something that I'm really into. The book version of this story is written entirely of notes, emails, letters, instant messages and any other type of written media, and I loved this.
