Christmas Encore | Blogmas Day 13

Hey Guys x

Happy Blogmas Day 13!

This is a Hallmark film that was on Amazon Prime. The premise seemed interesting, and I'm a fan of the main actress, Maggie Lawson, so I was excited to watch it.

Charlotte (Maggie Lawson) is a struggling actress looking for her big break, when she finds it in the form of a modern retelling of 'A Christmas Carol'. The catch? She already knows the director.

Total honesty - I thought this film was going to be a musical. or at least feature music in some way. At the very least, I thought we would get to explore their play in more detail. So it's safe to say I was very disappointed with the end result.

The film starts off by introducing too many characters too quickly. It's really hard to work out who's important and who isn't because we don't get the chance to know who anyone is. The film should only really focus on Charlotte, at least until the main characters meet.

From the description of the film, we know exactly what will happen, so why does it take so long to get to the point? It takes over half an hour before she's actually cast in the role, and the film isn't a full hour and a half long.

Because of the context, you don't really see this couple as romantic. There's so much going on with the play that there isn't really time for them to have romantic interactions. Plus, there's not really any chemistry between them.

We also never really get to know these characters, especially Julian (Brennan Elliot), so it's hard to have any feelings about them, positive or negative.

For me, the most disappointing thing about the movie was the play. We spend a good hour (at least) watching them prepare, plan and talk about it, and then the play itself is over in less than a minute. It felt pointless.

It kind of felt like the film would be more realistic if, at the end of the play, all of these characters just went their separate ways.

And as far as a Christmas film goes, it barely counts. I can't actually remember Christmas being mentioned more than once, aside from the name of the play (obviously). This never feels like a Christmas film.

Overall, there are better Christmas movies out there. I didn't really get anything from this one to make me recommend it.
