A Baby for Christmas | Blogmas Day 17
This is the third instalment of the 'For Christmas' series. There are two more movies after this, but for now I'm stopping with this one. Maybe I'll get to the other two next Blogmas?
A year has passed since Marci (Malinda Williams) and Blair (Karon Joseph) got married, and now they're having a baby. But everyone in the Chandler family is having problems this Christmas.
This was the worst of the three films for me, and one of the contributing factors for me not watching the other two movies yet.
This film has forgotten why we watched the first two movies, and I wasn't really sure what, or whose, story it was trying to tell.
For me, these movies are all about Marci and Blair. But this film focused way too much on the lives of the other family members. We like them because they're interesting characters, but we don't want to watch a whole film about them.
And because there are so many members of the Chandler family, to get everyone in, the film had to force too many storylines into a short time, which left the whole thing a bit messy. I actually ended up fast-forwarding a lot of the storylines that I wasn't interested in, and I don't feel like I missed anything because these storylines didn't add anything to the main story.
Having said that, some of these individual storylines would be sweet if they were done separately, with more focus on them. But here, all crammed together, none of them really worked.
And sadly, there isn't too much else to say about the film. If we're only looking at the Marci and Blair storyline, it starts and ends in about 15 minutes, and is literally just 'pregnant woman has baby', so not much to either like or dislike.
I will say this for it, though: this film was the most Christmassy of the three. Now, that doesn't mean it feels like a Christmas film, because it doesn't. But Christmas is definitely a bigger character than it has been before.
Overall, if you liked the first two movies, then you'll probably enjoy seeing the next instalment. Otherwise, don't bother.
Originality - 4/10
Christmas Spirit - 4/10
Christmas Music - 3/10
It's 8 days until Christmas!
Come back tomorrow for Blogmas day 18!
