Hallmark Christmas Movies! | Blogmas Day 15

Happy Blogmas Day 15!

I have been watching so many Hallmark Christmas movies lately (I've discovered that the UK equivalent of the Hallmark channel in the US is Christmas 24 - or Movies 24 at all other times of the year)! Rather than doing 10+ posts of reviews of films with very similar plots, I decided to just put my favourites into one big post, so you can see for yourself which Hallmark movies are worth watching over the festive period.

The Sweetest Christmas

When a pastry chef enters a gingerbread competition, she can't even explain how much winning would mean to her. But when her oven breaks just before Christmas, it feels like her dream has been cruelly snatched away. That is, until she runs into her ex-boyfriend, who happens to own a restaurant with a working oven. But is she too focused on the competition to let the sparks fly between the two old flames?

This was a really cute movie. I'd call it predictable, but I'd be using that word far too often in this post. As I said before, they all have similar plots. But as far as this one goes, there are much better Hallmark movies out there. But it's still a fun watch.

Hitched For The Holidays

Two people, one with a huge pushy Italian family, and one with a small, equally pushy, Jewish family, decide that, to keep their parents happy, they'll pretend to be a couple at Christmas. However, the closer to New Years' they get, they discover that maybe their fake feelings are in fact, becoming real.

I have to admit, the main draw for me was the fact that the main guy is played by Joey Lawrence, from 'Melissa and Joey', but that aside, this is one of the better Hallmark films. I really enjoyed learning about both of these people, and their families. And their love didn't feel forced. Watch this one, for sure!

Christmas Inheritance

Party girl Ellen (Eliza Taylor) is about to get her inheritance. But before she does, she has to follow her father's wishes of going to his hometown, Snow Falls, and pretending to be an ordinary person, rather than the heiress that she is. At first, she has no idea why her father sent her there. But the more time she spends there, the more she learns the true meaning of Christmas.

I know that this isn't technically 'Hallmark', but it has the exact same formula as a Hallmark movie, so I figured I could include it. I really loved this movie. Predictable as anything, some moments of cheesy dialogue and some obviously-for-no-reason conflict, but that didn't take anything away for me. I would definitely give this a chance if you're looking for something festive!

Switched For Christmas

When identical sisters discover that they're both planning Christmas parties (one for a school, the other for a big company), they decide to switch places, planning each other's parties and learning more about their sister's lives as they go.

Now, this is a story-line that has been played out again and again since I don't even know when. So while the premise of the story might make you roll your eyes, it's definitely not as bad as it sounds. That doesn't mean that it's one of the best Hallmark movies out there, and I probably wouldn't watch it again, but there are some great moments that made me enjoy having it on in the background.

Love You Like Christmas

Maddie (Bonnie Sommerville) is on her way to a client's wedding, when her car breaks down in Christmas Valley, a town that is completely in love with Christmas. With nowhere to go, and nothing to do, Maddie has no choice but to fall in love with Christmas, and with a certain family in Christmas Valley.

This was better than the 'identical twin' movie above, but other than that, there's not a lot going for it. I personally didn't really feel the chemistry between the main couple at all, and that for me just ruined the rest of the movie. While I loved the interactions between Maddie and a girl called Jo, that was all I really enjoyed about the movie.

The Mistletoe Promise

Two strangers who hate Christmas make a plan to get through the holidays together by pretending to be a couple. But are their feelings for each other really just fake?

It for sure sounds like I've just re-written the plot for 'Hitched For The Holidays', but in all honesty, this film is like a not-great version of that. While the other film showed some interesting aspects of the festive period, this one had too much cheesy dialogue, little-to-no chemistry between the couple, and overall just wasn't that enjoyable to watch.

Enchanted Christmas

Interior designer Laura (Alexa PenaVega) is forced to take her daughter back to her hometown so that she can work on a renovation. Once there, she runs into her ex-boyfriend and ex-dance partner Ricardo (Carlos PenaVega). But when a series of events mean that they have to dance together once again, will they rekindle what they lost years before?

I enjoyed this film a lot more than I thought I would. I expected it to be a carbon copy of all these other films, but it was quite different. Of course, the premise of running into an ex and falling back in love was completely the same, but the dynamic of the dancing, and Laura's daughter, certainly added a new element that made this a really enjoyable watch.

A Cinderella Christmas

Angie (Emma Rigby) is an event planner. When she decides to go to one of the parties that she has planned, a masquerade ball, she ends up talking to Nicholas (Peter Porte), a man about to inherit a fortune. But to avoid her cousin, and business planner, finding out that she was in attendance, she left the party at midnight, leaving only her stocking behind. But Nicholas has been captivated by this mysterious woman, and he's determined to find her.

Although this is the most told story in the history of time, I really enjoyed watching it. There was so much chemistry between the couple, and I loved watching them. As far as Cinderella stories go, this is quite a good one!

A Winter Wedding

When a couple get engaged just before Christmas, they think that their wedding will be smooth sailing. But when one of their mothers want to throw a winter wedding, and the other wants to wait and throw a summer wedding, this couple must decide what it is they truly want.

I have no idea what the real title of this film is, but lets ignore that! This is the first film in this list that has a different plot, due to the fact that the couple are already together. Rather than watching two people fall in love, you're watching them battle their family, while trying to create the wedding of their dreams. Definitely check this one out if you're looking for something a bit different.
