Carrie (1976) | 100 Movies Bucket List

I was looking forward to re-watching this one.

I've seen both this original and remake, and while this one is the best version, I love the story enough that I really enjoy both versions.

I was especially looking forward to it because of how much I loved 'Dressed to Kill' by the same director - and I loved that Nancy Allen was in both movies!

The whole cast was great. They all played their roles really well, and Sissy Spacek was perfect as Carrie. The cast is one of the best things about the film - they make the characters feel really authentic.

Spacek and Piper Laurie, who plays Margaret White, were fantastic together. The relationship between mother and daughter is the most important one in the film and they both put so much into it. Every moment of their time on screen together is so powerful and is the main reason the film is as iconic as it is.

Of course, this being a Stephen King adaptation means that the story is probably going to be good, and this is completely the case. The story is such an interesting one, and it seems to be really faithful to the book.

Given that this was the first feature-length King adaptation, it really paved the way for a new idea of what horror was or could be. I am a huge fan of so many King adaptations and seeing the starting point is fascinating. Even though the stories are different, with different directors and completely different themes, they all have a similar feeling that has become synonymous with King.

I was surprised to see that the movie was only 90 minutes. So much happens and it's so fast-paced, there's not a second that's boring or where you're waiting for the next thing to happen.

And part of that is due to the writing. Every word moves the story on, every scene has significant meaning and everything that happens needs to be included.

Of course, the prom scene needs to be mentioned, given how iconic it is. I loved the way it was filmed, the visuals, the red backdrop, and even though the special effects are dated for a modern audience, they're still so much fun to watch.

This is one of a few King adaptations on the bucket list this year, but this is the only one that's never been on one of my bucket lists before, so it's the only one I'll be writing about, which is a shame. Nevertheless, I've loved seeing the way the horror landscape has changed and I look forward to seeing the new TV version of Carrie coming out this year!
