The Oscars 2026: My Wishes and Predictions

It's Oscar day!

I feel a lot more invested in this Oscar race than I have in previous years, which is really fun, but honestly I'll be glad when it's over, we know who's won, and twitter conversation can go back to ANYTHING else.

Nevertheless, I'm excited to finally have a look at my predictions.

As usual, I'll go through the categories where I've seen most or all of the nominees and highlight what I think will win, what I want to win, and why. But I'll start by ranking the Best Picture nominees:

10. Hamnet

9. F1

8. Marty Supreme

7. Bugonia

6. Frankenstein

5. Train Dreams

4. Sentimental Value

3. The Secret Agent

2. Sinners

1. One Battle After Another

I scored a lot of these films around the 6-7.5 area and that feels accurate, as most of them felt just above average to me. Thankfully I really liked the majority of them, and the top two in particular are two of the best films I watched last year (unfortunately 'Weapons' wasn't nominated, or that would have been my number 1!)

Best Picture

Prediction: One Battle After Another

Wish: One Battle After Another

There have been a lot of changes to Oscar predictions in the last few weeks, but for this one my prediction and wish haven't changed. Taking Weapons out of the equation, One Battle After Another was the best film of last year for me, so obviously that's what I want to win, and what I think deserves to.

Best Actor

Timothée Chalamet - Marty Supreme

Leonardo DiCaprio - One Battle After Another

Ethan Hawke - Blue Moon

Michael B Jordan - Sinners

Wagner Moura - The Secret Agent

Prediction: Michael B Jordan

Wish: Wagner Moura

This is probably the most loaded category for me, because I want my wish really badly but I know it's probably not happening. For me, Moura's performance was the best of the nominees, and also better than the majority of last year's nominees, so it's really annoying that he's not in the conversation more. My other favourite performance of these is Leonardo DiCaprio, so that would be fun too, and again I'm surprised that he's not in the conversation more. As it stands, I think I know how it's going to go tonight, but I'd love for it to go in a different direction!

Best Actress

Jessie Buckley - Hamnet

Rose Byrne - If I Had Legs I'd Kick You

Kate Hudson - Song Sung Blue

Renate Reinsve - Sentimental Value

Emma Stone - Bugonia

Prediction: Jessie Buckley

Wish: Rose Byrne

I think Buckley's got this in the bag and any other prediction is just kidding yourself. I thought all of the performances had merit, and while I liked Buckley and Byrne's films the least of the bunch, I'm not surprised they're leading the race. Of the two I preferred Byrne, but it's clear how it's going to go.

Best Supporting Actress

Elle Fanning - Sentimental Value

Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas - Sentimental Value

Amy Madigan - Weapons

Wunmi Mosaku - Sinners

Teyana Taylor - One Battle After Another

Prediction: Wunmi Mosaku/Amy Madigan

Wish: Amy Madigan

I think Wunmi Mosaku has pulled ahead slightly due to the BAFTA win, but Madigan is looking like a strong contender and I'm really happy about that because I loved Weapons more than any other film last year and her performance was a huge reason why. If I were picking nominees Weapons would have way more than one nomination, but as it stands they only have one, so I'd love them to take it.

Best Supporting Actor

Benicio del Toro - One Battle After Another

Jacob Elordi - Frankenstein

Delroy Lindo - Sinners

Sean Penn - One Battle After Another

Stellan Skarsgård - Sentimental Value

Prediction: Sean Penn

Wish: Sean Penn

This is the easiest one for me. I liked all of the performances, but I loved Penn in this film and I definitely think he deserves it, whether it's his third Oscar or not. There are at least two other winners that I would be happy with, but looking at the precursors and the performance itself, I want it to go to Penn.

Best Director

Paul Thomas Anderson - One Battle After Another

Ryan Coogler - Sinners

Josh Safdie - Marty Supreme

Joachim Trier - Sentimental Value

Chloé Zhao - Hamnet

Prediction: Paul Thomas Anderson

Wish: Paul Thomas Anderson

Another easy one. He's cleaning up in the precursors and he directed the best film on the list for me, so there's no way I could pick anyone else.

Best Adapted Screenplay

Bugonia

Frankenstein

Hamnet

One Battle After Another

Train Dreams

Prediction: One Battle After Another

Wish: One Battle After Another

Easy once again. I think it's pretty clear that if One Battle wins no other awards, it's got this one locked in, so it wouldn't make sense to predict anything else, and I do genuinely feel that it deserves this award.

Best Original Screenplay

Blue Moon

It Was Just an Accident

Marty Supreme

Sentimental Value

Sinners

Prediction: Sinners

Wish: It Was Just an Accident

Don't get me wrong, Sinners deserves this award and I'm glad that it's going to take it, but there's something about It Was Just an Accident that I still can't shake after seeing it. I wish it had been nominated for more so that it could have a decent chance of winning something, because it's better than at least half of the Best Picture nominees. But as it stands, I'm glad it was recognised enough to even be in the conversation.

Best Original Song

Dear Me - Diane Warren: Relentless

Golden - KPop Demon Hunters

I Lied to You - Sinners

Sweet Dreams of Joy - Viva Verdi!

Train Dreams - Train Dreams

Wish: Golden

Prediction: Golden

I didn't love the KPop Demon Hunters movie, but I absolutely love this song and I really think it deserves the Oscar. I Lied to You would also be a deserving winner but I feel like it's pretty much decided that Golden is taking this.

Best Original Score

Bugonia

Frankenstein

Hamnet

One Battle After Another

Sinners

Prediction: Sinners

Wish: Sinners

Easy again - the score is one of the best things about the film, so it absolutely deserves this one and I'm pretty sure it's taking it.

Best International Feature

It Was Just an Accident

Sentimental Value

Sirât

The Secret Agent

The Voice of Hind Rajab

Prediction: Sentimental Value

Wish: The Secret Agent

I feel like I have to predict Sentimental Value based on other predictions, but The Secret Agent is my winner no matter who the award goes to. In a perfect world The Secret Agent would win, sparking an actor win for Moura, and while that's unrealistic, my fingers are still crossed. But my second pick would absolutely be It Was Just an Accident, which is also a worthy winner (as is Sentimental Value, in third place).

Best Costume Design

Avatar: Fire and Ash

Frankenstein

Hamnet

Marty Supreme

Sinners

Prediction/wish: Any

This is a category that doesn't matter too much to me. The only one I haven't seen is Avatar, but I wouldn't be surprised if it took this home. None of the costumes from the films I have seen stood out more than any others, so I'd be happy for this award to go to any of them.

Best Make-Up and Hairstyling

Frankenstein

Kokuho

Sinners

The Smashing Machine

The Ugly Stepsister

Prediction: Frankenstein

Wish: Frankenstein

I haven't seen all the nominees, but from what I have seen, this award is Frankenstein's. The design of the creature is enough to have them walking away with it and it's absolutely deserved.

Best Production Design

Frankenstein

Hamnet

Marty Supreme

One Battle After Another

Sinners

Prediction/wish: Any

I don't really know how to predict this one, especially because it's 5 best picture nominees. I'm guessing it's between Sinners and One Battle but Frankenstein could also be a contender. Either way I don't mind who wins.

Best sound

Frankenstein

F1

One Battle After Another

Sinners

Sirât

Prediction: F1 or Sinners

Wish: F1 or Sinners

This is another category that I don't care about too much. I assume it's between these two and I'm happy for either of them, or any of the other nominees, to take it.

Best film editing

F1

Marty Supreme

One Battle After Another

Sentimental Value

Sinners

Prediction: Sinners or One Battle After Another

Wish: Any

I don't mind whatsoever who takes this one home. I think there's a chance F1 could sneak through, but I thought the editing was between good and great for all of them, so any could have it.

Best cinematography

Frankenstein

Marty Supreme

One Battle After Another

Sinners

Train Dreams

Prediction: Sinners or One Battle After Another

Wish: Train Dreams

I've heard equal conversation between Sinners and One Battle in terms of predictions, but I would love to see Train Dreams take this one. Given that it didn't get all the nominations it deserved (particularly Best Actor) I would love to see a win here.

Best casting

Hamnet

Marty Supreme

One Battle After Another

Sinners

The Secret Agent

Prediction: Sinners

Wish: The Secret Agent

I mentioned in my Sinners review that the casting was amazing, and it was, so I think they're going to get it and I'm happy for them to. But my main wish is for whatever gives Wagner Moura the best chance of getting the Best Actor Oscar, so if the casting award would help with that, then that's definitely my wish.

And those are my wishes and predictions! I can't say I'm hopeful that things will go my way this year but I'm hoping we see a few unpredicted winners, so who knows?
