Cloudy With a Chance of Christmas | Blogmas Day 22

It's Blogmas Day 22!

A weather reporter (Valery Ortiz) is assigned to host her network's Christmas Eve festival alongside the network's morning talk show host (Brandon Quinn).

This was a late pick, and the only thing about it that caught my eye was the fact that I recognised the love interest from a TV show but hadn't seen him in anything else. The story itself wasn't something I was particularly looking forward to.

This film was okay, but definitely not one of the best.

It's more of a classic Hallmark Christmas movie than some of the others I've watched. And yes that made it feel more generic, but it can be nice to watch movies with a more classic nostalgic feel.

There was a mention of faking friendship, and that made me wish so badly that this had been a fake dating story. I didn't get to see that trope in any of the movies I picked this year and it would have worked well with these characters.

As it was, the plot was a bit bland.

But at least there was some kind of chemistry between the characters. You can easily see them being together, so they were good picks, and with a better story I think I would have really liked them.

The romance was developed really well. We got to learn about them, they got to know each other and after a while you're rooting for them. Though I would have liked to get to know them more.

Considering the point of the film is to do Christmas activities in a small town, it would have been easy to make this more Christmassy, but it was like the filmmakers didn't even try.

I also didn't really get the conflict, which may be because there wasn't really anything worthy of a true 'conflict' and instead just the characters feeling things that have no justification because nothing actually happens to warrant the hurt feelings, or the 'villain's' motivations.

And then there's the fact that I somehow cared more about the characters at the beginning when I didn't really know them, than at the end when I'd spend 90 minutes with them.

Overall, this isn't one I'd particularly recommend. It's more classic Hallmark than some of the others I've watched, but there are definitely better ones out there.
