Limitless | 100 Movies Bucket List
I saw this film for the first time years ago and, although I remember liking it, I never really had the urge to see it again.
Nevertheless, because I don't really remember much about it, I was happy (albeit very surprised) to see it on the bucket list.
The idea behind this film is really interesting because the plot could play out in a thousand different ways. Just taking the idea that someone takes a pill to open up 100% of their brain is unique and yet so open-ended that I'm surprised more movies haven't tried similar versions of films like this.
The film does a great job of showing the effects of the drug. It makes good use of colour and it's written really well. The use of voiceover is particularly effective.
My main issue with the movie is the character of Eddie. I think to really connect with a movie like this, you have to be able to connect with the character you're following. But not only was I not able to really connect with Eddie, I just felt absolutely nothing for him. I didn't like or dislike him, he was just completely neutral.
And because of that, no matter what happened in the story, I didn't really care about the character. And ultimately I think, to love this story, you really need to care about Eddie and what happens to him.
I also found that the story gets a bit convoluted the more it goes on. It felt like things were being thrown in rather than the story moving in an organic way. This also made the film feel longer than it actually is.
So ultimately, the more it continued, the less I cared. And despite being happy to see it on the bucket list, I completely understand why I wasn't itching to see it again after my first watch.
